I need breastfeeding help!

👐👐👐👐

I breastfed my daughter for the first month and a half. I was talked out of breastfeeding because it got difficult. She's 3 months now, and I feel like stopping the breastfeeding was a mistake. I want to continue to breastfeed.

Unfortunately my supply is virtually gone. I have been putting baby on the breast when I can (she gets frustrated when nothing comes out) and pumping. But I'm only getting like half an ounce a day. I know it'll take some work since I went so long without but how do I do this I don't feel like I'm making progress

have you tried fenugreek or fennel? I've been drinking mothers milk tea which has both in it and it helped with my supply. and try pumping for 15 min on each breast every 2 to 3 hours to stimulate them and make them think baby is eating. from everything that I have read that is really supost to work. hopefully that works for you. Best of luck

I'm sorry you didn't have the support you needed. I know your pain, it was incredibly hard breastfeeding those first few months but it gets so much easier. Since little one has had a bottle for several weeks now she's probably getting frustrated because it's a lot more work to nurse from the breast than a bottle nipple, and she knows there's an easier/faster option. But I don't think it's impossible to switch back if you can get your supply up. Try fenugreek pills, mothers milk tea (brewed mine in large batches and kept in the fridge at all times as I could only tolerate it cold) eat all the oats and flax seed and honey you can. I heard Gatorade helps too but I never tried it, I drink at least .5-1 oz of water for every lb I weigh. And make sure you're getting enough. I wish you the best of luck, and if it doesn't work out don't beat yourself up, a fed baby is best, no matter if it's formula or breast milk.

One more thing, make sure you're still taking your prenatal or a postnatal vitamin.

I agree with everything they posted above. Sorry you didn't get the support you deserve! If your able to build you supply and try getting to nurse again, if you're having trouble keeping baby latched I recommend a "nipple sheild" at first. My son had trouble latching the first week and it really frustrated him... I had a lacation consultant help me, she had me use a Medela brand nipple sheild for 1 week (she said not to use it longer than that).. they sell them at Babies R Us and Target. For you I thought maybe it would help your baby adjust, since a bottle nipple is usually very long, nipple shields are semi long also, so it would feel similar at first for your baby. Then after a week try to sneak the nipple sheild away during feedings here and there when baby is sleepy like during a night feeding, then go to no nipple sheild at all... once you stop using it, don't go back, the first 2 days after I took the sheilds away were hard but after that it got a lot better. Just a recommendation, since that worked for me. Reaching out to your Local La Leche League couldn't hurt either. their who helped me and I know I wouldn't still be breastfeeding without their help. Wishing you all the best & remember some breastmilk each day is better than none so don't be too hard on yourself!! :)

Steel cut oatmeal, fenugreek, Brewers yeast, chocolate malt Ovaltine, lactation cookies, flaxseed/flaxseed meal, half your body weight in water, gatorade or powerade, blessed thistle with the fenugreek, pump every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-5 at night, make sure you're eating plenty (for every ounce of breastmilk your body produces, you burn about 20 calories so you need to make sure your taking in calories to replinish those), goats rue, sunflower lecithin will help empty as well as prevent/treat clogs, make sure at least 1 pump is between 1 and 5 am as that's when your prolactin levels are their highest, motherlove more milk plus special blend has a lot of the herbs in it already as well as goats rue, pump 20 mins (or until you feel empty) and go for an extra 5 minutes after the streams (if you get any right now, if not then whenever the biggest flow of milk stop) end to tell your body/mind that there's a demand for more milk, and make sure you've got a good pump (Spectra S1/S2 is highly recommended if you're primarily pumping but Medela Pump In Style/Pump In Style Advanced are good as well) because a pump can destroy a supply or sabatoge building one if it's not a decent pump and also make sure you've got the correct size flanges as that can make a huge difference as well. to help with friction from pumping, lube the flanges with coconut oil...it helps with any friction pain and friction in general.

I exclusively pumped for 11 months for my first daughter and am 5.5 weeks into 99% of the time pumping for my second daughter

You can try joining the Facebook group BRAS breastfeeding resources and support. They have info on relactation. I would definitely recommend talking to a lactation consultant for help
