Gawd...I am an advocate of breastfeeding and always will be, have been for 4 months...but at times like this, I absolutely HATE IT...the cluster feeding tonight is killing me, she was doing so great and now she's hitting a growth spurt and won't stop eating again, and it HURTS like it did when she was a few weeks old again!!! Got a blister on one nip and she keeps popping on and off, on and off cuz my let down won't come fast enough for her! Little does she know it'll happen faster if she just keeps suckling calmly, if I'm relaxed it works better, if I'm tensed up not so much....ugh. Sorry, on a break right now had to set her down beside me on the bed because I was about to explode lol 😡😢😤😥😩 I love my girl to pieces though, I ain't givin up now, not after this entire journey I've already gone through....just gotta vent!

I understand 100%. Except I don't have blisters... We keep passing thrush back and forth to eachother. My son is always nursing. I know it's mean but I had to start using pacifiers again (since he was a preemie they used pacifiers in the nicu to strengthen his mouth muscles). I let him nurse and do cluster feeds all day, and I'll let him nap on my breast but I just can't do it at night. I mean, I'm trying to suck it up and deal with it but there are times I'd lose my mind if I didn't reintroduce a pacifier.

My girl never took to a pacy, she just spits them out and gags at them 😧

I know your frustrated right now, but you gave me some really great advice the other day a out breastfeeding, I'm curious about this post... you said she's hit a growth spurt? that makes them eat more? && about the let down... I'm confused I guess... but is it just a "rush" of milk? like the baby wants this to happen? sorry if I'm irritating you more I'm just curious lol

Oh no you're fine! Yes, they have several growth spurts, I forget exactly when they hit but it every couple weeks for my girl lol....during a growth spurt they do what's called "cluster feeding" where they nurse A LOT, it's their way if fueling up and increasimg your milk supply....can be pretty frustrating as you can see by my post LOL please don't get discouraged by my post though! Ah yes and the let down is like to said, a rush of milk that usually happens several times during a feed, it's triggered by the baby suckling but also a release of the "love" hormone oxytocin, so it can happen when you're having sex, too! Embarrassing!!! Lol....anyways it's hard to relax and let that oxytocin flow when you're tense and in pain, so my girl gets frustrated that her milk isn't coming out fast enough! @wrd2016

ok so she will feed more often and for longer? but it's beneficial to her? and the let down is what they want bc it just a faster flow? it's crazy how much there is to BF, when it seems so simple lol there's so many saying and tricks lol but I'm not discouraged by your post, I know that it's going to be hard. but even with everything I'm learning about it, and how hard I'm realizing it's going to be, I still see the benefits and I'm going to try my hardest to BF for as long as possible lol

Good for you! Yes, it seems hard but once you experience it all you'll know what it all is even if you don't know the terminology...you can tell when the let down comes because it might feel tingly or warm or kinda pinchy....and the baby will drink faster and may make gulping sounds lol and cluster feeding it good for your supply and for them eating more helps fuel their lil mind and body as they grow, which usually happens in spurts 😜

Just like when we grow, our metabolism works harder therefore we become more hungry! Do not worry too much, it's nice to be educated on the matter because then you won't feel lost, discouraged, or confused and give up because you're ill informed....but really instinct is just as important and patience. I need to work on my patience sometimes lol I have to take her off and rest when she's going at it too hard cuz it hurts....but you will do great, and you're a great mommy already for making informed choices and for setting your mind to at least trying!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! PM me any time if you have a question...if I don't know the answer, I'll search around and try and find the best answer I can! A lot of the studies I've read I have found from articles by BellyBelly.com, they have a Facebook page and they helped me learn so much about pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding! I like to read the medical journals that they pull info from, too! @wrd2016 I hope I've been helpful!!!
