its a lot harder to not use said then done. when I had my son he was born encaul. as soon as he was born they put a Binky in his mouth. I was finally able to wean him off at one and a half. I wasn't able to breastfeed. it was horrid. but I don't not reccomend them. they never hurt his teeth. he was able to get off them he's 22 months and drinksnout of normal cups. its not "bad" to use them.
I used one wit both my babies and I like them a lot broke my son from it before his first bday and his teeth are doin great and straight. And my other baby is only 13 days old and she does good with it.
Yeah I said we would never use one then I had her. It totally depends on the child. Some will not settle without one. They want/need the comfort of constant suckling and my nips couldn't handle it 24/7. Weaning is not a huge deal, it teaches them life lessons if nothing else. As for teeth malformation, if you use the orthodontic ones right when they start getting teeth, it doesn't affect the mouth. We used the soothies the hospital gave us when she was first born (because I didn't think I'd need one so I didn't bring one) and they are shaped like moms nips so no nipple confusion and doesn't interfere with palate development. That was our 3rd night of no sleep. After she got that, we slept ;)

We probably won't use one just for the hassle of having to wean them off of it.

I personally don't. Another thing they'll get attach to. It unevens their teeth and they become dependent on it!!

plus if you aren't careful to make sure you size up the pacifier with the child, it becomes a serious choking hazard.

I do only because it reduces the risk of SIDS because it gives their brain something to focus on instead of going completely blank while sleeping
