Do you guys think it's worth throwing our OWN baby shower for about 50 guests with basically no help financially from anyone? I think it's better to just go out and purchase everything we NEED which will be the same amount of money spent on 50 people, and actually get what we NEED, and not expect people to bring gifts that cross off on our baby list.

ive never had a baby shower ive always bought my own stuff but this time I might since its hus 1st baby

I think it would be worth it. You don't have to go extravagant on the shower, it could definitely be cheaper than buying everything. Just do some punch, finger foods, a couple games and cute decorations. You could do for maybe less than 100$

@shemeher68, it's my first baby too! And I rather just go out and purchase gifts.

@kingme07, my mother in law who is suppose to help us financially with it wants to order sandwiches and all these other things that would keep us ABOVE budget, and then to top it off my husbands family is cheap... By cheap I mean that this Christmas mostly all of them gave gifts out that you get free at the store if you purchase a certain amount. One of his aunts told me also that when my baby shower came she was going to give me as the gift a drawing of a baby to hang in the nursery wall 😒 My assumption is that we will receive a gift 25$ and under for every family that comes, and if that's the case it'll barely be enough to cover the cost of the baby shower.

If she wants certain things then it's on her to buy them.

One person alone bought me $200 in gifts off of my registry so for me it was worth it

@edomke, You know.... I just can't bring myself to think that my husbands family would really spend all that much for a gift... I feel like if I have one it would be extra spending, because we would still have to go out and buy the big things.

Have all your close family make a dish. That's what we did. Family is always usually willing to help.

@kingme07, That's so sweet! I seriously highly doubt that could be our case.

I have done exactly that!! Well my hubby helped financially but the stress I put on myself & the money we both put in was a looooot! There were times where I said I should've just gotten what I need but it's my first baby & I wanted to celebrate with friends & family. The cost for everything didn't come close to the amount of things I received but I will always remember the day. It's really up to you & if you don't care for the celebration I'll definitely say just buy what you need & maybe have a small get together with a few close friends & family.. Nothing major.

@hottamalee, I think I rather just have a intimate diner or something, because I don't care at all for the party. And I rather not deal with the stress of organizing the shower as well as the "keep guessing" if we made up for money spent.

@mummylove, Yea.. If you're trying to make up for the money you spend then I'll definitely say forget it..well if you're anything like me lol I can't help but to go all out & I kinda figured my guest would do the bare minimum with gifts🙄 so I was prepared to spend more than all the gifts together. & the stress is crazy ! Making sure everything is in place, & I had to also host it which was a lot. Yes please don't do that yourself if you don't care for it lol
