@boogersbugsanddirt, baby trend infant carriers don't fit newborns unless they are at least 21-22 inches, so they're not safe to use unless the baby is big enough.

my baby wasn't 21-22 inches. but baby trend worked just as well as anything else would. nothing will ever fit perfectly.

Ah. Well my boys were very tall both 22 inches but I never knew that.

@carolinamom91, my local pregnancy center has a program I could do to earn a carseat, but I would have had to start taking their classes months ago to earn enough credit for a seat. I'm 37 weeks now, we didn't expect to have the problems with our new house that we've been having, we were supposed to have wayyyy more than enough money to buy a convertible carseat by now.

@huntersmommy19, that's not true. and the excuse "I did it and my baby is fine" doesn't justify me bringing my kid home in an unsafe seat.

when rearfacing the harness straps have to come from at or below a baby's shoulders or else it's not safe. I will be driving 45 minutes home from the hospital on a major interstate and EVERY time I'm on that interstate someone almost runs me off the road cause they're not paying attention. so you telling me to bring my baby home in an unsafe sear could be the reason my child died in a wreck if I didn't know better.

@boogersbugsanddirt, a lot of people don't realize that baby trend isn't a very good newborn seat. mostly because a lot of people don't know about all the safety guidelines, and there's actually a lot. it's a lot to remember but knowing my kids are safe makes a huge difference to me.

people think you can just throw your kid in a seat and they're safe when there's a lot more to it than that.

okay. whatever. just letting you know. it can be done. mine was only 19 and he was perfectly fine in it. if you don't have nothing else you are great full for what you can get. I didn't say you had to do it first off. I'm telling you if you have to do it with no other choice it can be done.

I'm well aware of carseat regulations, but I never thought of the height being an issue because my boys were tall. But I've have had a friend in a wreck with the carseat and her baby is alive and well. Not saying that you should use the carseat despite being a possible incorrect fit for you kid. I've never thrown my kid into a carseat and said okay you're good but I definitely can't afford the $300 carseat for each kid. I've had Graco, Baby Trend and a third but can't remember the name and baby trend has always been my favorite. I hope you can find something that works for you.

@boogersbugsanddirt, well height usually isn't an issue. it's only a problem if the harness isn't at the right level.

personally my biggest problem is there isn't a carseat made that will fit in my car behind me. they're all too bulky, except for the Chicco Nextfit. but like you said some of us can't afford $300 carseats right now. I was supposed to have the money for it but we are getting screwed with our house so we don't have any money for the nextfit. we can easily buy the $45 cosco scenera next from Walmart but it's to big and doesn't fit in my car so I still can't use it. and I can't justify buying an infant carrier that wont even fit in my car if I'm going to replace it with a convertible the second my boyfriend gets his bonus.

You can always go to your local fire department, they can help. I think even the police department will as well. If anything, try with and without the carseat base, take measurements of carseats and go to toysrus.
