I have a question for u ladies that already have their newborns.. so my baby loves sleeping during the day and she is only 10 days old she wakes up at night and can't seem to get her down... I need to put her on a schedule does anyone recommend anything? she is also loosing weight I need to get her to gain weight... any suggestions? need help please
@edomke, I will look in to that as well . I do have an apt with the lactation on Thurs so hopefully they can help :] when I was on the hospital they were very helpful.
@shortiebs, yeah I will see what happens she does let me know when she's hungry is just when she's sleeping when idk
Gas drops by little remedies helped a lot for Patrick. Call lactation if you plan on breastfeeding that long they will be your best friend
You should stop giving her the binky until she's a month. If she's already getting confused it'll make breastfeeding way harder and could be why she's losing weight. In my daughters first month she gained back to her birth weight plus a pound. Let her comfort nurse as much as you can it really helps with weight gain. Also hiccups are so normal even if it upsets her. My daughter hates the hiccups too
My docfors were REALLY supportive even before my milk came in. I feed on cue. I think they dont recommend a schedule til atleast 1 month. Makes a loose schedule but otherwise your baby will let you know when she is hungry
@edomke, that's what I don't want I want to breastfeed till about a year ... so hopefully it goes well I have been giving her a Binky at times but not as much because I have noticed she confuses it.. but when I make her latch she has a hard time ... I also notice she gets the hiccups after every feeding 😧 so when she tries to sleep it always makes her umcontrable..
Doctors are so quick sometimes on giving up with breastfeeding it's disappointing honestly 😕
Ya it's really hard! Breastfeeding was the hardest things I have ever done. She might be the kind of baby where she only drinks a little at a time. Might be why she is losing weight. I would bottle feed her breastmilk before trying formula to see if she gains weight if you have to. Please call lactation they are so nice and helpful I never had a problem with them (:
@shortiebs, seriously I was worried cause she had jaundice at the beginning and they kept pushing formula but I don't want to ! I knew I had milk... but that's why I want to put her on a schedule ... but me being a new mom is hard I'm glad I have the support of my husband if not idk what I would do...
@edomke, she's getting on that stage right know we're she wants to eat every hour at night 😧
Best advice is play with her during the day as much as she will allow that will help but my son didn't sleep through the night until about 10 weeks and that was because I started bottle feeding. Try not to bottle feed yet because my supply dropped a lot from it 😕
My son didnt get back to his birth rate until 2 weeks. Its normal. I was worried about it but the pediatrician said it was normal. Also, i havent had success with schedules. My son is 6 weeks and still sleeps randomly. He barely sleeps at night
But when I strictly breastfed he would be up every two or three hours at night just fyi
Lactation were like my best friend lol I called them all the time tell them everything about your doctor visits and they will probably wanna meet with you
@princessmommy, today is going to be her first bath :) well sponge bath but I hope it works
You could have a lot of milk but what I'm saying is you don't know how much she is drinking and you don't know how much fat/calories are in your milk. Call lactation asap and they will help you
@kimberlyyyy, I think that's what I'm going to have to do because my husband works during the night and so far we been rotating but it's gonna be hard for me to do it alone and thanks I will see of that works
@edomke, I am breastfeeding they keep pushing formula but I know I have a lot of milk because I keep leaking! I know I need to have a schedule because when she's sleeping my boobs tend to leak a lot and I know is early to introduce her to a bottle ...
I also give my son a bath & bottle then rock him to sleep.. Maybe you could try that?
I showed my newborn day & night.. He understood night time very quickly..
It normal for babies to lose weight in the first 2 weeks but make sure their pediatrician is aware of it. Just keep taking her cues and feed her. Keep her at your chest so your body knows to produce more milk and that should help too. As far as having a backwards schedule that's normal too. My 3 month old is still backwards. You can try keeping her awake during the day, waking her up for feeds, etc, and then at night when you want to sleep turn off the lights so she can learn days/nights. It's a struggle for most parents. But everything that's going on is normal. Talk to the pediatrician for more advice.
If you are breastfeeding I would call lactation in the morning they can measure how much your baby is eating and see how much calories/fat is in your breastmilk otherwise you might have to switch to formula
seriously 😣 I mean over all she's a good baby but I'm concerned because of her weight I try feeding her when she has to be fed but still..
Have you asked your doctor on how to have her gain weight? Also are you breastfeeding? Sometimes a mothers breastmilk doesn't have a lot of fat in it. Also ten days old seems pretty normal. The only thing you can really do is try to keep her up more during the day even if she's crabby it sucks but ya :/
@santistevanmommie, I only give it to her when I know she needs it.. when she has already been fed burped changed and I know their is nothing else but I will tell the lactation about her confusion and see what they say :] thanks
