Can someone fill me in on what comes next after contractions are 5 minutes apart and you go to the hospital? Like how close do they get before you deliver and how long does it take? Like what happens in those long hours between going to the hospital and having your baby? Sorry if it seems kind of stupid but I'm just lost after the getting to the hospital part.

all depends on your body no two women have the exact same experience. I had contractions 5 minutes apart very strong for 3 weeks before my due date

contractions continue to get closer til they are 3 minutes that can take hours. They are mostly looking for your water to break and dilation at that point.

@myjulybaby08, then what happened when you got to the hospital?

@karnamarie, what if your water breaks before you go to the hospital?

then your contractions continue to get strong to help you dilate to the full 10cm.

I went 3 times to be monitored checked and sent home. I was finally induced at 41 weeks and was in active labor for 38 hours lots of walking jumping on the ball and trying to remain calm and stress free bf at the time was there but to f up on drugs I went through everything on my own. I kept psyching myself out that something would go wrong. everything went very smooth

@karnamarie, so when they get to 3 minutes apart does that mean you're fully dilated?

no usually before if you make it to 3 minutes. I stayed at 4 minutes til my son was born. The contraction are just your bodies way of progressing labor. As long as they are "working" contractions meaning they are causing your cervix to soften, inducing dilation then 3-5 minutes for contractions during active labor is fine

@karnamarie @myjulybaby08 thanks that helps a bit and @preggiemommy I don't plan on getting on epidural, going for an all natural water birth
