Two sets--one by birtue of closeness, and the 2nd is always the first non-family to show up at the hospital. I figure if they drop their life to rush to my little one, they are serious about bonding. We don't invite people in any order; it's pure luck.
@vinnysmomma, my two best friends told me "I call dibs on godmother!" when I told them & I jokingly said "of course" so I'm hoping they don't really think they're going to be god mothers because when actually looking at what a godparent is there for, neither would really fit lol I just feel like I'm too early to decide! Ahhh! I'm such a planner 😳
@jessica415, we felt like that'd be fairest. That way we didn't choose, per se. We love all our friends equally, and they still have no idea that's how it works lol I'm waiting to see who the 2nd set will be for Ajani. It worked out perfectly for my daughter's godparents so we'll see in February! 😄

@jessica415, exactly! And honestly I just don't feel as close to her as I did when I said she could be god mother. But yeah, she wouldn't be ready to step up if need be. Its such a crucial decision it's hard to choose!
We talked about it a while ago because our son is going to be baptized right away, my brother is going to be the godfather and that was an easy decision. For the godmother we chose a friend of my boyfriends who he has been very close with for 20 years. It was important to us that both of them had strong Christian values which helped us rule out a few people we love and adore, but who just weren't quite right.
@rebcamdot, we like that. That's why we are only going with our very closest. People we pray and worship with, fellowship with. We want strong roots for our boy, so while it's a bit of a raffle, we have a 100% chance of it being the right move.
@rebcamdot, babies need strong roots. The world is crazy, I need to know my kiddos are covered in all the prayer and good vibes we can get! Plus I feel confident with the godparents being able to help guide them. It's way more important than who gets the best gift or who always shows their face. We need someone to show and demonstrate their FAITH.
@tayek, Exactly! My bf was a little worried at first that his brother would be upset that we didn't ask him, but he doesn't have a strong faith in God. He isn't interested in church or personal worship and thinks it's all very unnecessary. He's prepared to explain to him why we made our choice and hopefully he is understanding and it doesn't cause a rift. Our faith is so important to us and we want to ensure that our son has a strong community and foundation surrounded by people who will help guide him.
@rebcamdot , We have thought about his older brother as his godfather, but are completely stuck on godmother. He has two older sisters that we absolutely adore, but we are definitely much closer with one as opposed to the other. We even told her we were pregnant first, before ANYONE else, and I feel like our bond is much more different than with his other sister. I just don't want to be in a sticky situation with anyone, because ideally I would love to have both of his sisters as godparents, but we don't know who would be another godfather.

I told my bff she could be god mother as soon as I found out. Buuuuut, I'm gonna take that back, so technically we don't have god parents yet.

I don't have godparents for baby Matty either I don't have any family members and I don't really have any friends besides my fiances friends lol
