Just rang to see if my sure start grant application had been received as I sent it last Monday and they said it can take up to 28 days to process! I'm really worried now because she might end up being early and I've still got loads of clothes to buy and a cot mattress! Anyone else had experiences getting the grant?

not everyone is intiled to it, so not sure.. which I don't think is fair. why one rule for one and one for another.

I get 200 pounds a month and I've had to get everything myself and I'm not intiled to anything :/ x

The job centre said I'm entitled to it because I'm on income support and receive full housing benefit since my OH moved back in with his mum and I only work 10 hours a week for my dad at the minute. I agree everyone should be entitled to it though! I managed to save up a fair bit whilst I was working but I've spent it all on her furniture and feeding equipment now. Everything's so expensive! X

It takes the piss, mine told me it would take 10 days and it's been over a month and still isn't sorted , I rang 3 times and each time they've said I'm entitled to it and that it's being sorted and still nothing

Knowing my luck it'll probably come a few days before she's born😂 I hate how you can't apply until 11 weeks before they're due but then I've read somewhere that sometimes it's take up to 10 weeks to process for some people. Doesn't make sense

Exactly but they told me over the phone yesterday if it isn't in by tomorrow then ring again and they will do a direct payment there and then so regardless I will get mine tomorrow, just wish it was sorted sooner 😒

I went from working full time to 8 hours a week and I'm still not intiled to anything. my partner has been really good with me and stuff but he's only brought two outfits for baby that's it, I've brought all the rest.

@vic22, you need to be on some sort of benefits to claim it which is stupid because I feel anyone with their first child should be entitled to it , I've got most things I need for the baby , just need the Pram and then little bits

You can claim income support of £110 every two weeks if you work less than 16 hours a week. I have to have housing benefit and income support due to my partner moving out otherwise I wouldn't have a home or food to eat. I would be on maternity leave pay but was forced to resign from work or be fired due to illness before 25 weeks even though I worked for them for 2 years. They gave me the choice of leaving or being fired because I had to take 2 months off because of hypermesis and they didn't want me if I would be unreliable. They have also said they won't give me a reference if I want to start working again at a different restaurant and will make sure I can't get a job there which is lovely😡 I'd love to still be able to work and not be called a scrounger by my OH and his family. I hate just sitting here but it can't be helped 😔

OH earns £1500 a month, pays out £80 for car insurance and £40 for petrol. He doesn't pay his mum for rent or food so the rest of his money is spent on alcohol and fags and god knows what else. It's not like he can't afford to help me out with things 😕

I feel the same about working, I was in college full time so it was hard to find a job that would hire me around college hours even tho my hours were pretty simple and easy to work around😒

It's hard to find a flexible job when you're young. It sucks that I was one of their best employees and was on a decent wage for my age, I could have afforded to rent a lovely house. Then as soon as I got pregnant and ill they just wanted me out. I really miss my job because it gave me a purpose, sitting here staring at 4 walls all day is not fun. I'm doing bits of my online degree but can't concentrate for long at the minute😔

My two managers were men and one cheated on his wife when she was pregnant and the other said he wishes his kids had never been born. When OH told him he couldn't go in because he was in hospital with me after I had a miscarriage he said he wished his wife had miscarried his 8 year old son😡 They really have no respect for women and explains why I had to leave

That's odd. My friend got hers within 2 weeks of sending the form off etc :/ I have a moses basket...haven't bought the cot bed yet. But not going to need it for awhile yet anyway. My OH hasn't bought anything for the baby...I have...or my family have...or I've just been given things. x

Im not entitled to it which is so unfair considering I'm only 18 only have my maternity allowance as an income so it leaves me with barely anything. so I'm not entitled to it because I worked before I fell pregnant full time hours.. that's why I'm on maternity allowance the system is completely wrong xx

The system is really unfair , @winterbaby95 my friend got hers within a week and she applied after me, they told me they needed to wait for my first income support payment to go through then after that it would take 3 days, but that was 2 weeks ago, but atleast I'm finally getting it tomorrow regardless, my OH hasn't really bought anything either, me and my family has bought most of it, his family has bought us a few things too x

Before I was pregnant I was working 50-60 hrs a week, my OH works 40hrs a week, both on minimum wage and we are not entitled to anything at all, not even working tax credits, even now with me being on SMP! I applied for the grant, thought i might as well as you never know and we weren't entitled to it until I start getting child benefit, which apparently everyone is entitled to! It winds me up something chronic that we've worked since we were 16, paid full tax into the system but yet we aren't entitled to a single penny!l, but if I didn't work we would be entitled to anything and everything!!!
