If you want to keep your supply up and continue breastfeeding just make sure to try pumping after formula feeding or put baby to breast even if they're not getting anything out. That's how your body learns it needs to make more. If you keep giving your baby formula your body won't know it needs to produce more milk. I thought my body would know naturally how much milk to make but when I started supplementing with formula I would produce less and less milk until I was dried out and fully formula feeding my first born. Have you need staying hydrated?

My preemie is supposed to get formula but I'm mostly breastfeeding. He takes both though with no major issues. You can do both, but every time you add formula you either need to pump or put baby to breast after or else you run the risk of losing your supply.

No you don't HAVE to use supplementing formula. But it's better for breastfed babies and it's a different formula than regular formula. I don't know exactly what they do to it but it's specially for supplementing while breastfeeding. I really suggest a supplementing formula!!

I do! Not daily but my daughter stays at my moms one night a week, and while she's there we usually give her formula. We use Gerber Gentle Supplementing formula. It's made specially for moms who breastfeed and are looking to supplement on the regular or on occasion. My daughter took to the formula well and has no stomach or gas issues with it. We also use the Medela breastmilk bottles, they have nipples that are similar to human nipples so it helps the baby be interested in them. Also supplementing is great because when she does take formula I'm able to pump my milk and store it for future times when I need her to take a bottle :)

I did , my daughter was in nicu when first born and I had her via c section, well the hospital I was at couldn't provide the best care for my daughter and what was wrong with her at birth( born with 2 small holes in her lungs , that have healed 100% WITH OUT ANY SURGERY💖) and because I had to recover from surgery we were apart for 3 days and never had the chance to hold her till then and I couldn't pump so she was put on formula. When I was able to get to her after being discharged she took to the breast milk great and loved it and it didn't bother her doing the switch , unfortunately eventually I stopped producing milk and had to switch her completely to formula and she was great with it now she's 10 months and on 2% milk with no problems what so ever. So I think the combination is good because she's getting all kinds on nutrients form formula and natural from momma (: good luck and God bless!!
