Alright mommies I need some breast feeding help/advice. I have started pumping today. my son is 4 days old. I'm in too much pain and he has problems latching.
but I just pumped successfully for my 2nd time and got almost 1 ounce from both. my son is asleep, so should I put this in the fridge? and then pump again how soon? can I add it to the same bottle?
@lesliel09 I tried using the shield but it didn't help him much :/ how do I warm it back up after I fridge it?
If you're going to be pumping only then you have to pump every time the baby is hungry so if he nurses every 2 hours you pump every 2 hours. Don't put fresh pumped milk in with old one that's been in the fridge unless you are going to feed him let's say you are feeding him in a bottle & he eats 3 oz you said you had 2 you can warm that up & add an oz of fresh pumped milk but never just add it to milk that has been in the fridge already. Also storage bags will be your bff & you can get them at Walmart or babies r us && if you are going to be exclusively nursing a nipple shield will confuse your baby & it will be hard to get him back on to your nipple I wouldn't recommend using it you kind just have to take the pain & help him learn my 2nd son had latching issues too but I just decided to exclusively pump with him
invest in a nipple shield, they're available at most walmarts and babies r us. my little guy had problems latching and I've been using it and it's helped a ton! as far as pumping, you could place it in the bags and freeze it, add to the same bottle and refrigerate it, but once it's chilled you can't add fresh pumped milk into it until it's chilled,.too. does that make sense lol
Get a bottle warmer! Don't use a microwave. Pump every 2 hours for 30 minutes. Buy fenugreek pills they are magic for milk!!! Drink lots of water & in 2 days you'll be pumping more than 3oz in each bottle!
