I had one before my labor and OMG I cried it hurt me so bad to put it on and take it out. But when I was in labor and I did get the epidural it didn't hurt at all neither when they took it out because I was still numb.
I had it because i had the epidural. If they put it in after you got the epidural you shouldn't really feel it. Coming out though is uncomfortable. It can depend on the nurse too that does it. I've had some that i barely noticed and another who i just about kicked her face.
Honestly, its extremely uncomfortable, and I absolutely despise having them put in. I forget if they do them at every delivery or not...Even though I've had four kids. You would think I'd remember 😕 Either way, I don't think they hurt terribly bad, but they are miserable and uncomfortable for sure.
@jessicaallysz, it's not suppose to hurt. Sometimes if the balloon is inflated too much it might feel uncomfortable. But if it gets painful let your nurse know. What I do I deflate a tiny bit and make certain it's not leaking cause the bulb/balloon keeps it in and from leaking around the urethra. And we try to refrain from removing and reinserting cause of the risk of infection.
