It's ok in the first trimester but anytime after that no you shouldn't. Sometimes during the night we wake up or end up on our backs and that's fine but just re adjust. Only because the weight of your uterus presses on a main vein that provides blood and oxygen to the placenta or baby. So sleeping on your back presses on the vein and it limits the supply. That's when they say the left side is best to sleep on.
it can restrict blood flow and oxygen to baby. you can do it just don't stay on your back for long periods. i know i could feel when it was time to switch because my heart rate got faster and i got shortness of breath
i was a devout stomach sleeper. i know your pain!! lol. I've heard of people i using an inner tube to sleep on their stomach. like stick your belly where you would sit and arrange pillows all around

I always fell asleep on my sides but woke up on my back. Turned out fine. Try to stay on your sides if possible.

@ashleynicole22, better to sleep in left side. More oxygen and blood flow for baby.
