@rachelt1993, yeah it was and I needed to lose it all to fully realize what's important. family has always been important to me but maybe not as much as it is now.

Wow that's crazy! That is a lot of money for only 2 nights!! & Yes, I needed the reality check. And now I know what's really important, it's not what I have but the love I have. My family is all I need and I know we can make it happen if we stick together! And yeah that was 4 years ago so it took a while for us to get to this point.

@rachelt1993, I was the same way, grew up getting what I wanted. hell I worked at a club 2 nights a week (bartending) I was bringing home 600 to 800 a weekend cash. I paid all my bills supported one of my brothers who lived with me, but lost it all. I have definitely learned to appreciate what I got cuz it can be lost in a second! That's so great that things are going good now!!! ☺

True there are the lazy people but I just don't like it when people group all of us together and act like we are all lazy just because we have needed help. I am happy for you too. And I know how that feels, life can change in an instant. I grew up in a pretty wealthy family, never wanted for anything and I definitely took it for granted, I never appreciated what I had and I was never truly happy. I was young, stupid, and selfish. When I moved in with my boyfriend (now my husband), I was on my own completely for the first time. Both of us lost our jobs around the same time, and we ended up dead broke. We would go days without eating, and had to walk everywhere because of no car. Luckily we were able to live with his brother for a while until we found jobs. Then I realized how blessed I was and that was actually one of the happiest times of my life just because I learned to appreciate everything, even when I had nothing. I didn't have any kids at that time thankfully. Now we are finally doing great and I even get to stay home with my son. I am happier than I have ever been & I am so thankful for the hard times because I believe you can't truly appreciate the good if you haven't experienced hard times.

@rachelt1993, there are some lazy people (brothers ex wife is one) but yeah its help to make it easier to try and get on your feet or get to a point where you don't need the help. I am also a giving person, always have been and always will be. I know what it's like to lose everything, I was on top of the world! had a brand new pick up truck fresh off the lot, name brand everything! lost it all and was on my way back to live with my parents with only the clothes on my back literally! I had to clothes shop when I moved back! I've definitely come a long way since then!

Yes so true & I agree, if I give to someone, it is not up to me what they spend it on, I am giving from my heart. Yes I have heard people say that people are lazy and don't have jobs and live off food stamps but I really don't see it like that. Food stamps is not enough to live off of! Most of the people who get them really do need the help. & thank you it was really a blessing that he found that job. Neither of us expected it at all, but we are very thankful to God.

@rachelt1993, omg yes!!! That's like I also give a few dollars to people I see on the side of the road. I have been homeless and done that before myself so I know what it's like. I'm not gonna not do it cuz they may use the mo ey for drugs or something like some do. I know I did what's right, it's between them n God what they do with it. I'm glad to hear things got better for your family! and your right it's not enough to feed a family for a month, it just helps to make it so you can eat and be able to pay bills! The cost of living and to eat are expensive and so are kids lol

@bella91, exactly! It's so sad that a those "bad apples" give everyone else a bad "reputation" it's like they assume everyone who gets help does stuff like that.

Yes totally agree. We had to have food stamps for about a year or a little more and then my husband found a better job, but we would have starved without it and really it's not even enough to feed the family for the whole month. We still had to pay for some out of pocket too. People act like people just live off of food stamps but no, we used them in our time of need, and now we can afford it so we don't need them anymore. I hate it when people who have never been in that situation try to judge us who have. One day they will need help and then maybe they will realize how stupid they sounded.

I receive both as well, although I know a few ppl who work FT jobs and get PA and buy weed with their public assistance money! it's those ppl that give honest hard working ppl a bad wrap and have us treated like garbage at the DSS office

@mariahabigael, same here! I have some nice DC shoes, but I take care of my stuff and you would never guess they're 2 yrs old! It's like if you don't look like you need help you shouldn't have it. Even the ones who look like they need help are trying hard but cuz people are so quick to judge they don't ask for help and struggle even more so, which is so sad!

Yeah! Like I have a nice phone but I've had it for two years and my phone bills only $40 cause I got it flashed and use one of those shitty companies. My mom is very well off and buys me nice things for holidays. My north face is 6 years old people just look at you and assume the worst!

@matthewsmommy, your telling me! and wic is a god send! they cover 20 cans of formula for the boys and they use every last one!

I used to work at a grocery store and the only time I judge is when I see someone buy $100 worth of beer and cigarettes and then pull out an EBT card to pay for their groceries! And they are regulars so it's something they do a lot! And just for the record I have EBT too lol
