I hate to be judged for this as I am obsessed with being pregnant for the first time and dream about the day I get to meet my baby 24/7, but as of right now I'm 14w pregnant and haven't found the will power to quit smoking. I've always told myself the day I found out I was pregnant id kick this nasty habit but I've tried over a dozen times in these past few months and I just can't seem to do it. I'm hoping to find someone on here that didn't quit the second they found out but over time found a way that worked for them that would hopefully share how they did it with me! I've thought about nicotine replacement, vapes, gum etc etc but were told by the doctor none of those methods are safe , and i have of course tried cold turkey a 100 times. This is frustrating as I want nothing more then my baby to be healthy but every time I say this is it, I cave in and buy a pack.. Thank you for any advice in advance

I would check with you doctor first, but I've heard going to a sauna for three days helps your body "sweat" the nicotine out. 😊

How many cigarettes do you smoke a day?
Brooke·
About 10

And @lkitchen I heard that as well but thought I saw somewhere hot tubs and saunas weren't safe during pregnancy due to the high temps increasing heart rate ?¿ . I could be wrong but I'll check at my next appt , thank you

@brookemommy2be I have heard that. So I would definitely check with the OB or midwife but they might say it's okay in the long run if it helps you kick the habit(: maybe short intervals so you don't overheat. Also if you have the habit of smoking when you get in the car, I've heard of people keeping suckers instead like dum dums.(:

I feel any person can kick a habit like that as long as you really want to & put your every effort into it. I hope i don't sound judgemental.. not trying to. Maybe if you give yourself a little more credit & encouragment from both yourself & loved ones may help alot. Your baby itself should be your encouragement.

I'm in the same position and feel your pain. I used to smoke almost a pack a day for 7 years but happy to say that since I found out a few weeks ago I've cut back by one every couple days and am now down to 3 a day. I hope this helps and good luck!

If anything, quitting cold turkey can cause more harm then anything! Try to cut back and hopefully try to quit entirely by the time you're at 24 weeks!

@eddiesmommy, how can it do more harm? I was smoking two packs a day and the day I found out I was pregnant I stopped and I was already two months. it's more dangerous to the baby's health if anything it takes 3days for nicotine to get out of your system those first few days were hard but the smell of ciggs after a week made me sick its hard but not impossible and shouldn't be for the child's safety

My OB told me that some people have such a strong addictive quality that it will make them incredibly sick and in early pregnancy could harm the baby! I quit before I knew I was pregnant because the smell of cigarettes was making me so nauseous, but my OB could of very easily been wrong. @mommatoobee

@eddiesmommy, idk I smoked weed also and that's something I'd say I was addicted to and I stopped that cold turkey too its all in your mind set my baby's heart beat was enough for me to stop

baby could have low birth weight and have have breathing issues, more prone to heart problems and a lot of other things my personal desires went out the window but everyone is different I guess

Some people just aren't as strong, I know when I found out I was pregnant I was able to quit anything including my job because it had a lot of toxic fumes. But everyone handles things differently, including addiction @mommatoobee

Honestly I was smoking at least 10 cigarettes a day before I found out I was pregnant.. I fount out I was pregnant, and mentally prepared to quit at my first appointment (about 4 weeks later I think ) and I did completely stop smoking the day after my appointment ... I have smoked maybe 3 cigarettes since... Now the smell usually makes me sick, but sometimes I still get that horrible urge!. I Just find something else to snack on when you need a cigarette. It's really hard but you just have to make it past those first few days!

I was smoking about 2 packs a day when I found out I was pregnant. I've managed to cut down to about 3-7 cigarettes a day. My doctors told me quitting cold turkey could cause my body to go into shock which will add stress to the baby. I installed an app at first that helped me and have added hard candies and carrots into the mix. Most of my family smoked the entire time they were pregnant, cutting back of course. Honestly, though, pregnancy can be a great motivator to quit. Try Jolly Ranchers or something along the lines. No one is perfect and what matters is that you're trying. :)

I stopped about 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant because I had a feeling after 2 years I would be pregnant and I was...but I think my case is worse now, because everyday I have the urge to buy a pack but I've stressed too long about trying to get pregnant, and I don't want to lose my miracle baby
