38 weeks 5 days! with my little baby boy ! It's my first! can any one answer a question for me tho? my doctor told me I'm 2 cm dilated and my cervix is shortened does anyone no what that means? He walked out and moved on to his next patient before I could ask him what it meant..thank you in advance!

thank you! @mommabird that really helped he didn't say if it was anything bad or not! and @teagsmama I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well ! keep me updated ! they had to stuff my contractions 2 times at 29 weeks! one day after another the shot stung! I was told at 25 weeks that I also have a short cervix. but the Dr said its nothing to worry about. it can cause early labor but your far enough along it shouldn't be a problem.
You can walk around at a 2-4 cm for a while and not be considered to be in active labor, but it's a good sign you've already got stuff happening. The more that happens before active labor, the easier it will be!
I'm your cervix starts at about an inch long so once your body starts early contractions, the uterine muscles pull on the cervix, shortening it and opening it. You go from completely closed to 10 centimeters open when your in full labor to be able to push baby out.
