There are two types of parenting. The parents who care how their kids act in public and the parents who DON'T care how their kids act in public...

My sister in law is the second type and I am the first type. If my son misbehaves in public, whatever toy/candy he was getting gets put back on the shelf and we are leaving. And if he's bad enough (which luckily has happened ONCE in his life) he will get spanked when we get home.

Today... At Dollar Tree, my niece was screaming and crying and throwing things and having a full blown tantrum in the middle of the store.. Instead of picking her up and leaving the store, my sister in law laughs and says "looks like you're THAT kid." ...... Now, it's none of my business how anybody parents their child.. But it was completely embarrassing. And it's one thing to have a screaming child in a store, we've all been there.. And if you haven't yet, your day will come.. But like I was saying, it's one thing to have a screaming child and for you to remove the child from the situation or do whatever you can to comfort the child to make them quit crying and to behave... And it's another thing to just stand there and do nothing... She's THAT kid because you didn't do anything but laugh at her. I don't get embarrassed, like EVER. And I was completely mortified. As the people stared at us I could feel myself turning as red as a fire truck. Literally. So as soon as she paid she tells me she's going to the car.. So as soon as she walks out I immediately start apologizing to everyone. The cashier, the people behind us, everyone. And they were like "Is that your kid?" And I was like "Oh nah, me and my kid would've been out of the store the second he started acting up. I would've put every single toy back and we would have left." And they were all like "Yeah we couldn't believe she stood there and did nothing." All I could do was keep apologizing. I felt so bad.. For myself, for my sister in law and for everyone at the store.

So. Once we get into the car she continues to scream and cry the WHOLE way home. Almost 45 minutes, I should add. And my SIL was telling me how she will never apologize for her kid acting up in public because every parent goes through it... I just kept my mouth shut because I just don't want to fight over something that honestly isn't even my business... Anyways. Sorry for blowing up your time lines with my nonsense. I just had to tell somebody and figured some of you guys may get a kick of how my SIL acted. Completely ridiculous.

When my son acts up in public he knows that we will leave in a heartbeat. The times we can't leave I spank him right then and there and tell him to straighten up or he will be even more punished when we get home (aka go straight to bed or no tv or play time depending on the time) does every parent go through there kid throwing a fit in the store. YES but how you handle it makes the difference.

Oh no. @islanddreamer07 she gave in and gave her all the toys and everything.... Lol. And yeah. That's what I told her. I said kids have good days and they have bad days. But the fact that she fed into her daughters tantrum is what I was baffled by.

so I think every kid is different and I have to say I was more happy to hear that your sister didn't give into the tantrum and give her what she wanted. my first child had to be taken to the car so many times for crying and tantrums but my second child has only thrown a fit one for being buckled into the cart at the check out line. Rather than give in I had to ignore his cries so I could pay and leave. I see parents all the time who just give the kid whatever he/she wants and I think that teaches bad behavior more then ignoring the screaming child. sometimes children are just difficult and there isn't much you can do but wait for the child to get on with life.

is it wrong to be frustrated that my daughter acts like she can't do certain things with out my help. she plays dumb a lot and I wish I could be like no girl show what you know. she acts like she can't trace or match shapes so shes ask for "mommy finger" to help her so I barely hold her hand and she magically can do it but if I dont hold her hand she just scribbles and acts like she doesnt know the pic is how she traces when I'm "helping her" otherwise it'll just be scribbles all over the page

Transgender children So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do u think the parents are behind this? Idk because I haven't met the parents or children. I just think at 5 it's very young for children to really understand. What do u ladies think?
