How often do you bf your newborn, and for how long? I'm trying to exclusively bf. He is now 3 days old, and will feed for like an hour or more at a time. I know my milk isn't in yet, but wondering if this is normal?

I completely understand it's so terrifying and we want to do all that we can for our child but is hard when we never experienced it before and don't know what to do . You are doing amazing bc the fact that your worrying shows how much you care and are wanting the best for your child . I read on some ones post that her child would not stop being fussy and she added formula feeding a along with her breast milk and that's how she knew her child was still hungry . I also was told that it take a week after the baby's born to produce proper milk and mostly colostrum in the first days @varduim

@babybermea, Thanks so much for sharing the info you learned. I'm also a first time mom and never nursed before either. I just want to make sure everything is ok and normal. So much to be paranoid about.

So my wic lady said 6-9 times they'll latch the first days and that you practically spend the whole day nursing the first few days and that it's very exhausting and there's different ways to nurse like laying on your side I can look it up in my book for you now these are all things that I learned I have never nursed before so I really wish I could offer more help I do know that it's sooo exhausting but it's so wonderful your trying your offering your baby the most nutrients . @vardium

@babybermea, thank you, I just wonder how long it takes to fill that stomach at each stage, and how quickly it empties. I feel like I'm spending most of my time nursing. I'll do what I have to for him, but it's difficult.

@meganeileen6, that's just how my son has been. Sometimes he will just suck for comfort too I think. It's just difficult because I feel like I'm not able to feed him what he needs right now, but I guess it's normal to feed for so long at this stage. I don't have my pump yet, but I really look forward to that and for my milk to come in so I can pump and have bottles on hand. Do you pump? Also, do you remember how long it took for the feeding time to slow down?

My breast counselor said that your body provides what he needs and according to how much he eats is how your supply will come in and that the size of baby's stomach is very small I'll find a pic for you
