Does anyone know if when I go into labor, instead of getting the epidural, and get pain meds...if the pain became…

I got some pain meds in my IV before getting the epidural. It wore of like 20 mins later and I couldn't get another dose for an hour. I got my epi right when my hour was up.

you can research it, I honestly don't know if there is a difference. personally I don't think there is but I'm not sure

So is this walking epidural different than the real one? Omg this sounds perfect. If I can walk around I think it'll take a lot of anxiety off my chest. @txkitten83

You can get the walking epi. It takes a lot of the edge off but you are still able to walk with it, good thing about that one when it's time to push you will be able to feel what your doing and that helps a lot @xaviermom1221

Well, now that I've read a little I want the epidural if it comes down to it... I know it will. Butttt I have anxiety and panic attacks. They get really really really bad, I'm so scared to have a panic attack after getting the epidural because I can't feel my lower half... I made it to 9cm with baby #2 and the nurse said we were preparing to push, I said please give me something to ease the pain, I don't even remember what it was called lol but it just made me feel drunk and did nothing for the pain so I insisted on the epi before I started pushing and they gave it to me, all it did was take the edge off but man that was amazing after 6 hours of labor. He was my biggest baby at 9lbs (Thank God I got something for the pain lol) I think it depends on your hospital and drs, ask your Dr when you see them next tell them you want to try but just not sure @xaviermom1221

Yes I got pain meds and they weren't helping enough so I got the epidural afterwards.

after 7 cm they won't let you get it because the meds have to kick in. so if you go in at 4 cm and get pain meds and haven't dilated after hours and you want get an epidural you can but after that nope .

Well I got the pain meds in my iv and my body went into shock after a long time of labor I was going for a all natural birth but that didn't happen I had to get an epidural

Only if your not further that 5-7 cm dilated

It'll depend on the time frame you can't get an epidural after around 9cm I think if you haven't already gotten it. And you can't get it after like 20 minutes of the iv meds you have to wait till those wear off or whatever the time frame is for them. They won't mix the two by giving them to closely together
