I used to sleep with John almost every night since I brought him home 6 months ago.
My brothers friend came over last night and was telling me how his buddies girlfriend was sleeping with her baby and the baby died in the bed😢😢😢
So I am teaching John his crib is his bed and he thinks it's the end of the world, but Idk what I would do with myself if I were in that situation

There are definitely safe ways to co-sleep and side car the crib (or use a co-sleeper). So sad to see that happen when it could have been prevented.

Usually the chance of SIDS decreases around the age of your son since babies that age can move their head away from something keeping them from breathing and can roll over. Go with your gut though.

when he sleeps in bed with me, i have my side, which as a little blanket and a little pillow and on the side that he sleeps on is absolutely nothing but a bad the sheet of course. but I am definitely timid with him in my bed now. But I'm just very very very paranoid when it comes to that

I'd like to teach him before he's a year. I am a busy body when I am in bed but when he is in bed with me I am a stiff as a board I noticed. it sucks because we both sleep so much better when we sleep together. just terrified is all. who knows he might sleep with me in bed for a long time. lol

@blessedxfive, that's what I was telling my brothers friend. Her baby was about 10 months so my guess is, she rolled over on him or a blanket wrapped around his head. either way its just scary. you just gotta be safer with what you do with your kids....

If no one in bed is over weight, a smoker, the bed isn't too plush and you don't have an excessive amount of pillows and blankets then the risk of SIDS is relatively low. Some can even argue co sleeping or at least room sharing till the age of one is safer then being alone in a crib. My sons slept with me since the day he was born, even at the hospital and is 17 months and still sleeps with me. We've never had any issues

Oh and if no one in the bed has been drinking that day/night. If alcohol is consumed you're less likely to be aware of what you're doing or where the child is. If someone is a smoker the second hand smoke will stick to you, your clothes, even your bedding and can actually cause an infant to choke on the toxic fumes suffocating them (which can also happen alone in their crib if anyone smokes inside the home).

Side carring the crib has been the best thing I've ever done. My guy is 18 months and still sleeps with us :)

@kmally, can I use his regular crib for this side carring? or do I need a special kind of crib

We used his regular crib. He has the kind where the side comes off so it becomes a "toddler bed".
