I have never posted before but I am in dire need of some advice. I have been taking meds for over a year to help me sleep at night. As soon as I found out I was expecting I stopped taking my sleep meds, my Dr isn't to happy about it but I'm just not comfortable taking a medication that is considered a "tranquilizer". I can't sleep much anymore and I know it's not good or healthy. Does anyone have advice on what I can do or take to help me sleep at night?

Diphenhydramine (benadryl) is the safest. It's the "pm" portion of tylenol pm... without the tylenol. I'd avoid tylenol pm unless you also need the acetaminophen (Tylenol portion) for pain relief. Diphenhydramine is listed as a category B drug by the FDA and accepted as generally safe to consume during pregnancy. As for melatonin or any other natural supplement... I'd avoid them. Since they are supplements, they have not been studied by the FDA for safety risks. While your body makes melatonin naturally, the risks posed when supplementing natural melatonin by taking them as supplements has not been determined. I worked as a researcher for the FDA for 3 years so hope this info helps.

or ask about unisom! my doctor told me to take the B6 vitamin and unisom for my constant sickness, which actually worked. but unisom is a sleep aid so I slept like a rock!

Melatonin is the only thing that gets my husband with PTSD not to have night terrors and to fall asleep
