I've already shown this to my doctor, but wasn't super satisfied with her answer as she didn't really know what it was and kind of brushed it off, so I wanted to see if any other mommies have had anything similar. Since the very beginning of my pregnancy I had this blotchiness/modeling appear on my back. It's continued to darken and spread onto my butt and up higher on my back. My skin doesn't hurt or burn or anything, but it does happen to be right over the area where I have preexisting back injuries and pain. Has anyone had this before? I know the picture isn't the greatest quality but it's kind of hard to take a "selfie" back there, lol.

Here is another one. I think you can see color better here. It is purple and some areas around the purple are yellow (kind of like what a healing bruise looks like)

@kmlac7, I've actually seen this "mottled skin" pattern in infants and in adults. I don't know much about it but the two conditions where I've come across it were called "cutis marmorata" and "levis reticularis" I don't know if there's any relation to these conditions and pregnancy. I just know that a friend's baby has the first one and my cousin has dealt with the second in relation to an autoimmune disorder. Can you go to a dermatologist or get a referral to one?

Sorry correction-my friends child has "cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita" which was diagnosed at birth and looks like "cutis marmorata" which only happens when the skin is cold. Got them confused. @kmlac7

@brownieluv, I do! That was my first thought when it showed up so I stopped using it for about 3 weeks to see if it would improve and it still continued to worsen.

@queen141, thank you for that! I try not to Google things on my own since it will usually tell me I'm dying, lol.

Hahaha does it really ?! Google needs to calm down hahaha . You feel fine right ? @kmlac7

Thank you for that info. Now that you mentioned it, the levis reticularis sounds vaguely familiar and I think my mom was actually diagnosed with it. She gets the modeling similar to mine, but not just in one spot and it does seem to worsen when cold. I will have to bring those up To my doctor. I can probably get a referral to a dermatologist, I just wasn't sure if it was actually skin related since there are no "dermal" symptoms, or more of a vascular problem (those run in my family as well) But it definitely would not hurt to be seen. My OB doesn't really seem to care to pay attention to anything going on and is always rushing so she is probably not the best to discuss it with. thank you for that info! @rebcamdot

I would definitely go to the hospital if it was something new Or causing new symptoms, but I've had it all 30 weeks of my pregnancy 😔 there is no pain, itching, burning, etc. with it. it's kinda of just there lol @shortizzie

I ask because I used mine religiously and would fall asleep with it on. I didn't notice it until my hubby told me. It took a few months to go back to normal. But it it did look just like this! I was terrified my skin wouldn't go back to normal. Good luck! Hopefully it's nothing serious!

I used mine mainly on the lower back. That's where it was at. No where else.

oh wow that is good to know! I was sure that's what it was since it is only in that spot, and that's the only area I use the heating pad. My doctor said no, but she's given me false information several times on other issues. I see my midwife at my next appt and have far more confidence in her so I will her. Thanks so much for letting me know. I'm glad yours went away. My husband pointed it out to me first as well and always says I look like I'm turning part alien lol @brownieluv
