Sometimes it can cause nipple confusion, and then if it's used for an extended time then it can cause their teeth to come in wacky. But other than that, I think a paci is better than a thumb! You can throw a paci out, but not a thumb! And thumbs cause even more dental problems. I have multiple siblings who had to go through fairly extensive orthodonture work because of thumb sucking.

If they have it too long it can mess with their teeth. And some babies get attached and it's super hard to break the habit

They can get too attached to it and would be hard to wean them off it
