I had the mirena for 5 years. If it's inserted correctly your spouse should never feel the strings, it shouldn't fall out or get stuck. My only side affect was weight gain- I didn't have a single period. Guess everyone reacts differently.
Also the strings before my Dr cut them back was a problem my hubby kept hitting them my Dr had to trim them.back really short which I have a 50/50 chance of having to get it surgically removed but that was a risk I was willing to take so my hubby stopped getting nicked by it
It took about 6 months to regulate my Dr had to give me a hormone to counteract the BC I was only on that for a month cause it regulated. For 5 months I had 2 periods a month. I have a cycle now which lasts 7 days which isn't too bad its light. I've had the Mirena for 9&1/2 months @theredheadchic
I got it a little less than a month ago & im still freaking bleeding! It's soooo annoying! I dnt bleed a lot but def enough to wear a pad. & omg, it hurt soooo bad getting it in! Lol @ariellesmommy
I had it girl and omg I had to surgery to get it taken out b.c it got stuck in one of my tubes and it hurts so bad when u get it put it and u will bleed

and yes the strings will poke them and the strings aren't sifted they r like plastic
