Yes you can but you can't have the nitrous oxide and talk to your OBGYN about being asleep for it I don't think that will hurt the baby but I'm not sure I know you can't have any of the nitrous gas but they can numb you completely

They can do basic dental work but I don't think they'll pull your wisdom tooth because that requires medication and anesthesia or nitrous which is unsafe.

@bria.k, that's untrue.
I work in a dental office, cleaning are recommended during pregnancy to prevent "Pregnancy gingivitis" Treatment is OK, as long as you get a medical clearance from your Dr. first. General anesthesia is perfectly fine for mother and baby. We have extracted wisdom teeth, done fillings, crowns and root canals on pregnant women.
I would recommend double lead vesting if possible and take only necessary X-rays, but you should be fine. Anti-bios are also safe as well. just avoid motrin and any narcotic.

We pull wisdoms all the time and don't use nitrous, just local anesthesia.

@pretty_xoxo_giirl_, my dentist wouldn't see me without a dr note and it specifically said no general anesthesia, nitrous, or medications. Only local/novocaine. So I was just going by what I was told!

So if you had an infection and needed medication to clear it up, that's a NO, odd.
Prolonged dental issues can lead to pre-term labor and low birth weigh in babies.
Most offices don't use novociane anymore its typically septo or lidocaine. I wonder why your OBGYN said different. . . . . @bria.k :)
but yea, she should be safe to get a wisdom tooth pulled. We actually pulled one of my good friend wisdom tooth & she was 7 months. did perfectly fine.

If they wanted to give me medication it would have to be approved by my OB first, yes. And I'm not sure about septo but lidocaine doesn't work on me, it just feels cold. And of course dental work is important in pregnancy. I never said it wasn't.

I just had a filling replaced and a wisdom tooth removed. General anesthesia only and my obgyn ok'd it first. Always ask your ob about any questions. I have 2 wisdom teeth that needed to be extracted but 1 was cracked and impacted. Which made it hard to eat. The oral surgeon suggested I wait for the other until I deliver because it's under the skin and near nerves in my lower jaw. Hope this helps!

Oh and dental work should be down during the second trimester! During the 3rd can stress baby.
