URGENT!!! ok mommies I need advice from anyone who may have had a similar situation as ours. both us and my son's Dr's here at children's are at a loss as to what could be going on with him. here is our story! at nine weeks old, on September 17th my son started running fevers, was very fussy, not sleeping well, and high white blood cell count. he was admitted and given antibiotics for two days. all lab work came back fine and we were sent home with a diagnosis of possible virus. he went back to his normal self until October 1st when he started with all the same symptoms again. he was given antibiotics again and after a four day stay was sent home and we were told he prob just got another virus. October 12th the symptoms returned and again we were admitted, this time for five days and given two days of antibiotics. he received a full work up but they were unable to find anything. he went back to his normal self and we went home with no answers. Then yesterday October 21st early morning his symptoms returned and we were admitted again. The dr's have done all sorts of tests but arent sure where else to look. the day before each episode begins he sleeps alot more than usual, then right before I check his temp he starts where he will barelly eat anything, he gets fussy, and cant sleep well, and then the fevers start. the episodes last 24-36 hours and then he returns to normal. each time his white blood cell count is elevated, its gone all the way to 33,000. we are currently in childrens of atlanta and this is our fourth Hosptial stay in just over a month. the dr's say he is a mystery and they've done all sorts of tests to figure out what might be causing these episodes to keep returning. if any mommies can relate with our experience or have any suggestions for us or his dr's please comment. we are so ready to go home and enjoy our son instead of living in a hospital.
@simpsonv54, definitely ask your dr about those... also, maybe a consultation with a pediatric rheumatologist. Good luck.
I'll be praying for ur baby and ur family hope u get the response to ur question soon.
they mentioned last time a concern that there was infection somewhere and they were suppressing it each time by giving the 48 hours of iv antibiotics and that's why it keeps reoccurring. so this time he hasnt received any antibiotics.
@lp1988727, they've done two spinal taps. one on Sept 17th and again on oct 12th abd they said the fluid was clear and grew no bacteria. they dont think he has anything severe bc he is fine in between episodes.
@simpsonv54, we can post it now and even if a member opens the app tomorrow, they'll see it. We'll just use your words. Good luck.
yes please @preggie_usa
the dr's are lost as to what it could be and have even asked us if we had any ideas of things
havent heard of that virus but I will ask about it. and they sent off labs for some disorder with white blood cells but they havent mentioned leukemia. on before visit they had check all his joints and no pain. but I told the this time that Ive noticed him not use his left arm mich and they notoced he seems like that side hurts him a lil. ill ask about the arthritis
not to freak you out, but have they screened for leukemia? also... he's pretty young but some of the symptoms he's having are also seen in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (also called juvenile idiopathic arthritis)
@coryellemg3, thanks for the link. the problem is he gets 48 hiurs of antibiotics each time and the before we go home they check his counts again and they have come down to normal.
@simpsonv54, do you want us to repost as an admin post so everyone can see it? Hope they figure it out.
on october 1st and again on October 12th he had blood cultures that grew staph. but they said it was more than likely a contamination bc follow up cultures showed no staph.
no cold symptoms, no diarrhea or vomiting., nothing! just the high wbc, fevers up to 103.7 fussiness and not eating well.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...

My nephew is going through the same thing and he had Hugh fever high white blood count and even botchy skin and was diagnosed with meningitis his first visit to the hospital then the second time they called my sister in law and told her his spinal culture grew bacteria 2 weeks later and he was diagnosed with a spinal virus it left us confused it too that's long to get results, he actually just got rushed to the hospital right now for the third time in about 3 weeks he's having fever, troubling breathing and seemed unresponsive I also think they aren't sure whats's going on @simpsonv54 not much help but seems a little similar hope they find answers for you
