So after dong some research I realized it is not normal for most doctors to make you wait until you are 10+ weeks to do the first ultrasound mainly because they are suppose to do a confirmation ultrasound to make sure the baby is growing and the due date is what it should be. It kept bugging me that I couldn't see the baby and so I finally called my place and switched my doctor I don't know if it was because she was a midwife but this lady was not concerned at all about make sure the baby was okay and the heartbeat was where it should be! I'm glad I called cause instead of waiting until I'm 10weeks6days November 4th I will be seeing the doctor on Monday at 9weeks 3days!

They're doing mine at almost 12 weeks. My doctor says its safer to do it outside the belly instead of doing the transvaginal ultrasound. I lost my first baby because the clinic that did it hurt me and stuck it to far in

I didn't get an ultrasound until 14 weeks first pregnancy and 21 weeks weeks this time they just used the Doppler

Normally 8-10 weeks is when you get your first ultrasound.

They check my hcg levels at my local clinic until I get to my dr next week lol I'm the same way though

Before that they can't see much and it's easier to find the heartbeat later on. If there's no cramping, bleeding, or other signs of miscarriage there's no real reason to do one any sooner.

@kmally, that's what I thought but then I also seen a lot of people with one at 6 and 7 weeks it really made me question my doctor

At my hospital I get an appointment as soon as I find out I am. They do it to one make sure I am pregnant and they do an ultrasound to make sure they see the baby in the "right place" then understanding of its to early like I went at 5 weeks they wanted me to go in a week later again to get a better look at the heartbeat and do an actual first prenatal visit after that we go exactly every 4 weeks

@mimiz, that makes sense my doctor just said your pregnant now come back at 11weeks and we will see if the baby is growing properly

I just feel like in the first trimester they tell you to be extra care and that this trimester anything can happen or go wrong yet they don't monitor the baby's growth or anything at all until way later

Sounds like it is a good change for you. I'm lucky that my Dr does an ultrasound once a month, I want to see my baby 😍
Mimi·
😕😕😕 the heck I mean all doctors are different also. At one point I'll be there at every week because of my cervix. It's pretty normal to go once a month so early on unless you have complications. It's so unfortunate that you don't know what's going on during the waiting period of the next appointment.

I think investing in a Doppler will give you a piece of mind you should be able to hear soon

Transvaginal ultrasounds can cause miscarriage so your midwife was probably doing it for the sake of your baby. Some people don't even get an ultrasound at all until they're 20w. 10-12 weeks is the normal time for a first ultrasound, although mine was at 9w
