I need to vent/rant for a moment. I don't usually do this, but I am hoping someone here can offer some support because maybe they have dealt with it, or work in the mental health sector. My 12 year old son was diagnosed with Bipolar 2, the most "scary" form of the disease, when he was 10. They wanted to diagnose him long before that, but couldn't as it's not legal in the state of FL to dx a child under 10 with the condition. Anyway, he had been on myriad medications before we finally got it right. His medicine was working like a charm for about two years, and we only had to up the dose once. It was like a miracle. I had my son back, finally! We had him seeing two counselors twice a week as well, and had them going to his school. We had a special plan in place at school for him as well. Well, now, his meds are not working anymore, he has become violent again, and tonight, he took off in the dark towards the woods with a backpack after being reprimanded for something he did wrong. I had to chase him down on foot, and I am *NOT* supposed to be running at all due to my SCH healing. I am now cramping really bad. My husband wasn't home at the time and he left the house due tothe situation with my son. He was super pissed. I have to get his med doseage upped STAT and not only that, but I need the peace of mind it takes to be level headed enough to deal with everything he is putting everyone in this house through. Lord, give me strength. Anyone have experience with this? I have been dealing with this for the past four years and it hasn't gotten any easier.

my niece is bipolar and I dont know what she takes but she use to be uncontrollable really bad to where she was talking like she was crazy and she would do things she couldn't explain and she would have a huge anger outburst in school and just tear classrooms up and her mother is sorry as hell they didn't start taking her to the doctor until last year.... they have her on some good meds and she is doing soo well in school she talks and engage with other kids her grades are amazing it took my mother awhile to get her situated and we all were patient with it especially at the time me and my sister was pregnant and staying with my moms it was stressful bc I feared for everyone in the house bc she would wander around and out the house different times of the night it's a process but it will get better

i worked at a pediatric psychiatric hospital for two years and know how scary this can be. Do you think you should take him in to be seen (ER)? If he's being violent/aggressive, I'd advise taking him in. Is he on any "rescue" meds, like Thorazine?

thank you @peachs75 I know its going to be a long, difficult road and will most likely never get any better than it is right now. Its very difficult. @jdrose thank you for sharing your story abut your neice, and I am so glad to hear she is doing so well. Marcus (my son) was doing great until recently. I cant help but wonder if its because of the new baby coming. Last night, he had an outburst and said "everything is changing because of that stupid baby in your stomach" whi h, of course, took me by surprise and made me cry. I didn't know how to respond to that. Then again, Marc has a tendency to be uber selfish, and wants all the attention. @5nooooodles thank you SO much for the prayer. I am so sorry you had to deal with that with your ex. Unfortunately I know how it is with dealing with the adult version as well. It seems to me to be much more difficult when dealing with a child, though, because there is only so much that can be done in his case where he is so young. 😳 There are only three medications for his condition, and the other two are Risperdal and I forget the other, but its a anti seizure med that can actually cause seizures. @levthank you for the advice. He is on Abilify 5 mg. I am playing it by ear to see if I need to bring him in. Its scary and not fun whatsoever. Thank you for your input ladies, I sure can use it!

I was diagnosed bi polar young as well. I put my parents through total hell. I also went through many cycles of medications before finding something that worked long term. I had to be hospitalized in the process. It sounds like he might need a hospital stay for a little bit. Especially since I would be worried about him harming the baby. There are so many great programs out there. The good news is that they are coming out with new medications every day so I am sure you will find something that works it just takes time. All the changing hormones make it harder too but it will happen. I just want to let you know that after all the hell I went through now with my meds I am pretty much symptom free and couldn't be happier. I have a great marriage and a great relationship with my parents. It might be hard to see it now but there is light at the end of the tunnel. It sounds like you are great parents and care about your son. It is so great that you are so aware and involved, it is what really gives you hope. Please message me if you would like to talk more.
