so me and my fiancé just got into the discussion about telling my oldest daughter that her sibling is her half sibling or someone telling her that. I honestly don't think it is important because they will love each other no matter what but my fiancé feels like she's gonna feel left out because she has a different last name than her younger brother/sister. I don't know what to do

Is she old enough to understand that they'll have different last names?

I think telling her it's a half brother or sister will make her feel excluded. Because it's point out there's a difference.

I have half sisters and I don't remember a specific convo but I k ew they had a diff mom and we had the same dad and that's all I really needed to know. we all got treated the same when they stayed w us

i mean you should wait until shes a bit older or asks. i mean they have different first names so might not question the last name. be prepared for questions

Depending on how old she is she wont get it even if u say it. Kids dont care about that anyway. She might ask why her name is different if so explain it to her. They dont care if its half, step or whatever all kids know is "thats my sister"

I have half siblings and my parents never talked to me about it, I also never felt different about them having a different last name. Also my older two are from my first marriage and my youngest two are from my husband now, they have never had a problem with their different last names or feeling differently towards their siblings. I personally think it's only a big deal if you make it one. I love all of my half siblings as much as I love my one brother that has the same parents and I actually hate when people refer to my other siblings as just half because to me they are just my brothers.

Мама двоих (младенец)
I think she should grow up knowing....my brothers have different dads than me and I don't believe in the whole "half" thing my brothers are my brothers!! If you wait till they are older they will feel like it's a big deal and it really not.

yeah I told him it won't matter to her as long as we treat them equally and show love to both of them and maybe when she gets older around like 10-11 and she asks questions then explain it bit not now
