I took my 2 month old son to his pediatrician at lunch time thursday bc he had a fever of 101.3 and was fussy and not eating much. the pediatrician couldn't find anything visibly wrong with him but she wanted us to go to the er for tests to make sure there wasn't something going on that she couldn't see. They did a chest Xray, blood work, Cath for urine sample, and check for flu and RSV. all those came back clear and they said they needed a spinal tap to check for Meningitis and other problems. they admitted us into the hospital that afternoon to start a broad range antibiotics just in case it was a bacterial infection while we waited for the cultures from the spinal and blood work. he ran a fever on and off for about 32 hours and is just recently getting his appetite back. so far all the cultures are normal and the dr believes it was just a virus. if all goes as planned we will be discharged this afternoon. im so happy my baby is ok but now I cant help but feel like a bad mother for letting them do all that stuff to him when it was just a virus. people keep saying they don't know why the er wanted to do all those tests just for a fever and fussiness and not loss of appetite and other people are telling me that I should've waited 24 hours. it makes me feel bad for putting him through all that...
