well my daughter started in newborn is 3.5 months and now in 3s so I agree with @ce5ce but I'd add one box of size 3s just in case and it's not like you won't use them or if you have unopened extras just take them to Walmart and get a bigger size

one box of newborns, three size 1s and two size 2s

Might want to get 2 different sizes if you're trying to buy in bulk. Never know how big baby will be or how fast baby will grow out of one size into another.

A lot. I don't have an exact number, but we go through 8-12 a day and she's 3 weeks old.
