We moved away from homemade purées onto a modified baby lead weaning...Pai eats almost everything we have just cut into small bites and i only let her have a couple bite size pieces on her tray at a time she'll pick them up and eat them for the most part with super soft foods I usually give her hand sized chunks for her to munch off of if its something that makes me particularly nervous like tomato we give it to her in the nuby mesh feeder..honestly it's super easy and convenient but you have to be sure you're watching just incase if excessive gaging Pai has never choked but sometimes she'll gag too much and need some water to wash things down

Honestly it's not that often that she gags and I'd start with mushy foods then work your way to less mushy foods as he gets better at eating

Avocado is amazing, steamed (and cooled) carrots, peas, greenbeans (I usually cut them up to the size of the Gerber puffs), banana is ok if it's ripe enough

Mostly because we would give her food that wasn't purées here and there and she seemed to prefer it over purées
