Anyone know how to deal with an awkward older sister? So my older sis is 27. When she found out that…

Anyone know how to deal with an awkward older sister? So my older sis is 27. When she found out that I was pregnant she was shocked and started questioning me about contraception ( silly I know) When I was about 7 weeks pregnant I went to her house for lunch. She then said something rude about me becoming a mum and when I challenged her on it she said " I don't want to talk about your pregnancy anymore" and then went upstairs in a sulk. She seems to avoid the topic at all times. She even talks to my younger sister about me being pregnant. But doesn't talk to me directly. She asks my younger sister what she thinks about me being pregnant. It just bugs me that she won't/can't speak to me about it. Last week she stayed over at the weekend. I have the Travel System in her old room because it takes up too much space anywhere else. Anyway she went to her room and just started crying when she saw the pram. I think I heard her asking my mum why it was there. I've spoken to my mum about it. I invited her to my 20 week scan next week. But I told my mum I don't think it will be a great idea...I mean she cried at seeing a pram...what is she going to be like when she sees the baby moving on the screen? So, I think I may just take my bf and younger sis. It kinda gets me down because there's this barrier between us...I mean we didn't really have a close relationship to start with but I now it feels like she has cut me off completely. I feel like she is blaming me for keeping the baby. She even told my mum that she thought it would be best to abort my baby and go to University which is where I would have been going this month if I didn't get pregnant.

if she is your older sis, she may feel a bit jealous that you got pregnant before her. I'm the oldest and have 2 younger sisters, I think of one of them got pregnant before me I would have got a bit jealous. maybe she feels jealous and like she should be the one to have a baby first. if she doesn't want to talk about it then maybe it's best not to push things, but I think inviting her to appointments and scans would be nice, at least so she knows she's welcome. otherwise maybe she may feel she's being pushed out. I'm only going from what I would probably be like as I'm the oldest and can kind of think of things to why she may be acting like this. I know it's frustrating, but it may be hard for her.

Yeah, she does feel jealous...especially because I am having the first grandchild :3 My younger sister got pregnant and I didn't get jealous I was happy and excited! but in the end she had an abortion. I did invite her...but I don't want her to end up crying. I don't talk to her about me being pregnant. I let her bring up things if she wants to...which is rare. :3

this is sort of like what my boyfriend's mum was like when she found out about me being pregnant. it was a bit different though obviously, but because we are so young (only 17 when we found out), she would get annoyed at him so often and if he brought it up to her, she would kick him out so he would have to stay round mine for a few nights which did make it hard but he had no where else to go. it took her so long to come round, from when we found out at 4-5weeks she only started to seem to come round slowly at around half way through the pregnancy which was hard. I would just give her time, maybe she just needs to get used to the idea its happening whether she likes it or not, and it's something she's gonna have to deal with. it may take a while, just male sure you try to keep her involved in things and she should hopefully appreciate that you kept her involved even though she's being difficult. once my boyfriend's mum came round to the idea, we ended up with LOADS of things, and we had basically everything we needed within a few months. we had to say stop because we have so much and I'm scared baby won't even wear it all, and we are sorted for the first year of her life! just give her time and hopefully she's more on board by the time the baby gets here :)

It sounds like she is jealous and envious and doesn't know how to express herself correctly. This has to be one of those situations where as much as you love her, you need to take a step back for your own health and wellbeing. Hopefully as time moves on she may come around. If I was in your shoes I would write her a letter saying how excluded you feel but that you love her, she is your older sister and when she can really tell you what her problem is you will be there to listen but for right now her behaviour is detrimental and it would be best if she gave you some distance.

Pregnancy is already hard enough without the love and support from your closest relatives especially siblings xx

Maybe she's not jealous maybe she's hurt. She might have struggled to get pregnant or had miscarriages and not told you....I was off the pill for 3 years before I conceived my son and I would have found it very hard if my little sister accidently managed to fall pregnant.

She hasn't struggled. She is very open with things. She has never got pregnant...never tried to either. She is just jealous because I am having a baby before her. And she isn't in any position to have one. She doesn't have a partner. She has been on the pill and the only time she has been off it since being 16 is a few months ago because she isn't in a relationship and she wanted to check if she would get her period which she did. Then she went back on it again. @tuftyturtle

Maybe she's just concerned for you. When I fell pregnant I had to turn down a job I had spent 6 months working my butt off for becsuse it wasn't practical. my parents didn't understand and haven't spoken to me since. my brother said he understood my choices but was concerned for me because he worried I would never do what I really wanted to do! babies can really change your life and your goals and sometimes the people around you can be concerned because we can't see it ourselves becsuse we love our tinies x

Yeah, she might be as I was supposed to be going to Uni this year...not having a baby. I said I could still go and do a term before the baby is born and then give birth and go back the following year. But my mum said it would be best to go when the baby is abit older. I was upset about becoming pregnant because I really wanted to go to Uni...But I chose this baby over my education. My older sister said it would be better for me to have an abortion and go to University. I did think about abortion which I am totally against...I wouldn't have chosen it. But that was the only time my sister was happy to talk to me...when I was thinking about abortion which is sad to be honest. She needs to get over it....she will have a baby soon enough :) If she got pregnant...I would be happy :) Same way I was happy with my younger sister. But there's no point in her being upset about it...the baby is coming whether she likes it or not!! To be honest I'm not enough to care how she is acting towards me...any other person would've been fuck you! etc. But I don't talk about my pregnancy to her...in fact when she comes over..

she doesn't ask me anything about it. If she wants to be like that...then I will just have to let her be. I'm not pushing her to talk about it...@tuftyturtle,
