Are some people hosting showers for themselves? My mom said "no way" to even having it in my home. Is this the new normal or some folks just aren't bothered by the taboo?

I threw myself a shower.. because Noone else in my family could afford to...

From where I'm from, it would be considered tacky and rude to throw yourself a shower. But it may not be in other places.

It all just depends on what you want... Don't let other people tell you that this or that should be done, even if it's family. It's about what YOU want and where you want it to take place.

I had mine at my grandmothers house... Lol because everyone knew where she lived and for the amount of people we had it accommodated it just fine and it was simple. Just depends on your preference, how many people, Are you going to go all out or just keep it simple? Mine was simple, a cake and decorations which were easy to take down, tables for gifts etc.

I was actually midway through planning my own shower because I figured than it could be exactly as I wanted... But the my MIL decided she wanted to throw us a 'surprise' shower

I don't think I'm bothered by it either--it does surprise me because it used to be very different where I live but that's all. I'm more curious than anything.

I'm not bothered by it. It's not about the mother anyway it's about the baby. If nobody wanted to throw me a baby shower I'd do it myself.
