@momminae, I know what they are. And not all work in hospitals mine is a certified nurse midwife that had previously worked in hospitals but has had her own practice for 25 years and is in no way affiliated with the local hospital. Her other midwife is not a certified nurse midwife but is affiliated with the local hospital.

@thehowtohippie, nurse midwives are certified registered nurses and other midwives have taken midwifery classes and had experience in birthing. Most certified midwives work in hospitals next to an OB and other midwives have their our practice

@mamabearholland, @meganeileen6 ask any questions you would asks. Doctor I'd ask if they're a certified nurse midwife. Where they send blood work. Where will you be sent for ultrasounds. How often do they send you for ultrasounds. In an emergency what is their protocol. At what point in labor do they come to you. Do they have a birth center. Are they affiliated with the local hospital on any way.
