I am a server and I call women ma'am but no, I didn't upset someone. It's been a debate at my work about whether it offensive or not.

No I don't get offended unless it's being used in a derogatory wsy.

idk about other places or if it's just the way I was raised. but to me ma'am is a term of respect. so when someone addresses me that way I don't mind

Uhhh at 25 I don't feel like a ma'am. I don't live in the south soooo I prefer being called miss.

I feel like miss is better but if you're like 60 whose gonna call you miss? Plus ma'am is polite. If you take politeness offensively then you're probably an ass.

ma'am and sir are signs of respect and good manners imo

im 23 & i feel like im too old for miss yet too young for ma'am but it also depends on how old the person referring to me is as well..ma'am doesn't offend me but just catches me off guard i guess...lol

I think it's respectful. It's not offensive at all. I'm 20 and get called ma'am all the time and it's nice. I like it. I get Hun a lot too, I don't know if that's because I look really young though. Some people say I look 17 others say I look 22. So I don't know about that.

I'm from Texas so if you don't address me as ma'am I take offense to it...I was raised that you address everyone as ma'am or sir...I even say it to my 4yr old and she says it to others...It's just a way to show respect when you don't know someone formally.
