I have a question I live in a duplex and we are the only unit paying water?is this legal? Also my son plays with the hose and he has takin it away I'm assuming because the neighbors snitched and said my son leaves the hose on which he does at times he's three it's not purposely if we pay water aren't we obligated to used any water source on the property? Also we have the controls in the unit for heat so let's say we turn it off it will turn it off for those who live upstairs and they will tell the landlord and he will call us to tell us to turn it on and keep it at a certain temp is any of this ok I don't pay heat but is this normal? I want out of this lease so damn bad I feel as if he's cheating us and we are a young family struggling at times with money? The upstairs people for sure do not pay water they slipped up and said idk who pays water you or the landlord when talking to my BF but rent is due and I don't want to pay it until I know what he's doing with the water is legally ok? Any experience or knowledge on this ? Please help and we pay water every month I'm hearing it's supposed to be every three ?

Tell them you want a separate bill for the water. then confirm with the water company what the total cost is each month for the whole property and see if you are paying a portion or if you're paying it all. also look in your lease, what does it say about the water agreement?

You can contact the water department and they will tell you exactly what's going on. It varies where you stay which determines when the bill is due. I know here our bill is due every month as well. I also say that if you are paying the water bill you can do what you want when you want because well you're paying it. Now with the heat I would just put it on a timer. Being that it controls everybody else's home that one is going to be tricky.

search Tennant rights in your state. I can't say for sure but I know that isn't legal here

If its a multi family home you can't be charged for water unless you have your own separate water meter and it's in your lease. that's in Ohio but I'd imagine it's similar
