I say do more research in what an epidural really does and the details that go into having one, and look into alternative pain meds they offer, epidural is the most extreme and harshest, longest to bounce back from so research now so you cab prepare yourself that way when the time come it won't stress you. As for your baby that's a different story, you may not (sometimes you do) feel anything with an epidural the baby certainly does. And it's not like the movies that show the baby drugged and psychedelic having a chill time, they are drugged but the sensation puts them in distress. Where you and the baby were once working together to give birth that connection is interrupted and lost, leaves the baby to feel abandoned and going through this birth alone. So if you choose an epidural I strongly recommend speaking to your baby before hand, let him/her know your plan and assure that you are not leaving them you are just going to sleep temporarily and they will feel you again soon.
lifesaver. imo. i waited 12 hrs before saying yes. it was just too much. my advice, research and talk to your doc about the various pain management meds offered and keep an open mind.
I am going to try and not get it for as long as I can I used to say I am going to get it. But I have heard bad things about getting it so if I can avoid it I am going to try
I recommend it if you have a low pain tolerance. My small contractions had me in tears, I got the epidural at 4cm, and my contractions went to the top of the chart and I couldn't feel it at all. It gave me a lot of time and comfort to catch up on sleep before my baby came.
I didn't do the epidural bc I wanted a natural birth without medication. I ended up having a couple doses of nubane only because I had been awake for so long I had no energy at all. I was in labor for 25-26 hours. I got nubane towards the end a couple hours before pushing so I had the energy to push.
it's ultimately up to you if you want the epidural or not.
