But everyone keeps telling me sex will do it. What part of sex causes that? The sperm from him or me orgasming?

It's actually both. Orgasming can set off contractions.

I've also heard of people masturbating or getting off later on in pregnancy with no sperm involved and the orgasm starts their contractions which gets labor going. It's always worth a try
