@vamama2two, good to know. My Union gives employees a stipend every 3 months for childcare. Nothing much maybe like $300-400 every 3 months. So I guess I would claim the remainder. You're so helpful. Thanks so very much for all you help

@nurseriri, you will get more back having a kid. You will get the child credit and also an exemption deduction for him. Also depending on your income you may qualify for additional credits. If you pay for daycare also you can get a credit for that.

@uhoh2015, it depends on how much you have taken out in federal income taxes during the year really. If he makes too much to qualify for the earned income credit (EIC) then you may qualify for the EIC and would get way more for claiming baby.. It all really depends on how much you make and how much you have taken out. I would have the person doing your taxes try it both ways and see which way gets the biggest refund overall.

@vamama2two, no his dad would let me be the sole claimer. We have our separate homes so I would be the only one filing. I was told I would actually get more refund with a kid. Cause my ft job I get a decent refund without a kid and I do get a refund with my per diem. Probably would continue filing zero on both plus claim for my son this way I maximize my refund. Thanks for the insight.

@vamama2two, I know he makes waaaaaaay more than I do. does it usually go who ever makes more gets more? or is it the opposite? just curious...

@uhoh2015, it really all depends on what tax bracket you guys are in. In situations like that I suggest having whoever files your taxes to calculate it both ways and see what the biggest benefit is and file that way.

@nurseriri, you shouldn't have any issues claiming him unless you have some kind of court order stating the dad claims him on certain years or whatnot. If you claim him on your per diem job they will just take out less taxes now and your refund will be less when you file your taxes. It shouldn't make you owe or anything if you still claim 0 on your ft job. Hope that answers your question??

@vamama2two, so I worked most of the year and will have her at the end of the year. but my question is, if I'm not married to my daughter's father but he makes more money, she he or I claim her or would it be the same regardless?

@vamama2two, seeing that you're an accountant I shouldn't have any problems filing for my son. Im not married to his dad. On my FT and my per diem job I file zero. This way they take out more taxes and I get a refund at end of year. Im in a different tax bracket because of my profession. My question should I claim him on my perdiem job?

If he owes again this year, it will help him owe less than he would if he didn't claim you all.

It will give him a larger refund because he will get an exemption deduction for all 3 of you guys. If he owes money to the IRS they will take it. But just think, you are helping him get out of debt quicker 😊 if you have no income it is best to just let him claim you. It won't hurt you in any way that he owes money to the IRS.

What if he claims us both while owing? @vamama2two sorry for all the questions

If you are married you have to either file married filing jointly or married filing separately. You can claim innocent spouse so they can't take your refund.. However you will not be getting a refund if you didn't have any income and pay anything in federal taxes. (I'm a CPA and work in public accounting so I do taxes all the time)

Am married but her dad owes the IRS and is making payments on that. I am worried that if he claimed us they would deduct what he owes on the refund. Pretty sure I read that somewhere @vamama2two

That's awesome! Thanks @nurseriri I'll look more into it.

If you file a return you can. But with no earned income, There is no need. Are you married? Who is keeping you and the baby up? They are the one who needs to claim the baby and you.

@babyn2015, I was told once the baby is born before the end of the year you can claim him/her. Not sure how the process goes if you're unemployed. I plan on claiming my son as my dependent on my W-2

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?
