A birthing center is usually a facility where moms can labor and birth in a more home-like environment than a hospital for a natural non-complicated birth. Usually they're staffed with nurse midwives.

Usually if you plan on using a birth center you would pick a CNM or OB who is associated with the center for your care I believe. I'm seeing a group of midwives who have taken over my care and will be with me for my birth at home. @california12632
