I had my bloods done and filled in my pregnancy book that you take to all midwifes and scans. x

I hated needles before I was pregnant, I went to the point of passing out at the thought of giving blood. xxx

nothing they will give u forms. book your 12 week scan. blood pressure height etc. that's it till your 16week midwife appointment x

I had bloods taken then filled in a book then I had to write my details on the 2 pages then I had my blood pressure done, height & weight - she worked out my bmi. That was mainly it then had blood taken again at my 12 week scan to detect Down's syndrome - which your midwife will tell about when your there :) xx

I was in your shoes with needles :/ I hated them as well as being in a hospital! now I'm 38 weeks and I'm not as bad as I use to be 😂 you get use to it trust!
first midwife appointment they will just introduce them self's and give you a green book that you need to fill in and they will book you your first scan (12 week scan) it's a breeze at your stage wait till you get to mine lol.. midwife every other week for check ups etc.. enjoy it whilst you can! xx

They gave me the forms to go and get my bloods done elsewhere so I guess it depends on your gp x

I was never able to have a an injection or bloods taken without passing out or throwing up... extreme needle phobia! I went into my first appointment expecting the same, but I tried a technique... chew some minty gum and preferably ask if ypu can lay down for the test... explain you don't like needles and they will make sure you don't see anything, then just focus on breathing and chewing the gum... I was totally fine :) it worked for me! it's worth a try and you will have quite a few tests done and I had whooping cough jab... but honestly I'm used to it now and I don't need gum anymore (still need to lay down) but I'm much better than I used to be! you will be fine :) remember it's for your beautiful baby and it's all worth it!! x

They take bloods even if it isn't your first xD But yeah this is my first pregnancy xD To stop yourself fainting have something with sugar in it before they take the blood. Don't worry :) It is over quickly! xD xD I had bloods taken again for my 12 week scan because I got the combined screening test :) To test for Downs and other stuff :) :) My midwife said that I had to have bloods taken every midwife appointment :) :) I see her for the second time in late September after my 5 month scan :3 You have to be prepared for a lot of things now you are pregnant. What if you need a Csection? They will need to give you an epidural :) Putting a needle in your spine. Maybe you may need a blood transfusion if you lose a lot of blood. So be prepared to be poked with a few needles :) Also you may need an Anti D injection and also you need a flu jab if you are pregnant. :) :) @missceh

@winterbaby95, is this your first pregnancy. thats the only thing bothering me about being pregnant is having bloods taken because ill probably faint. and im thinking now that maybe they take bloods at your first appt if its your first

I had bloods taken :) Only a small amount and she was very fast. If you are scared of needles just look away. :) Doesn't hurt. Don't tense up! Mine just kept talking to me the whole way through it :) If I hadn't felt a tiny prick when she put the needle in. I wouldn't have noticed she was taking blood or not xD :)

@missceh, i had blood tests during my first midwife app which was also at 8 weeks. it was over and done with very quickly. also had bloods taken after 12th week scan and at 28th week for the gtt.

nothing will happen, at least nothing happened to me... she said she gonna send all necessary information to the hospital and I will have to wait for appointment there, to do blood test and book first scan... she might ask for urine sample... that really all what happened)
