I was told not to use alcohol as well

Ask the doctor. I was told while in nursing school that rubbing alcohol isn't good for it because it dries out the skin and can actually cause irritation. And I believe I heard about just using soap and water, but to be safe, I'd doubt check :)

I was told that I didn't have to clean it other than with water during a bath.
