Its not selfish since there's no transfer. She wasn't wasted. If she was getting shit faced or even tipsy, then yes shame on her, however it was two drinks. Alcohol works in breast milk the same way it does in the blood stream. If mama is safe to drive she is safe to breastfeed. The rule of thumb is one to two drinks with out excessive use of alcohol in the drink is okay depending on moms body. If you are tipsy or drunk wait one hour per drink to feed. and you do NOT have to pump and dump. It leaves breast milk same as the blood so pump and dump is literally wasted milk. umm I breastfeed exclusively. and I drink every now and then. it is 100% acceptable and 100% safe. safe to drive safe to nurse. 👌

I breastfeed and wouldn't dream of having a drink while doing so. Sorry that's my opinion. I don't want my son exposed in any way (even having it in the house). I'm an adult. I know my limits. But I have NO desire to drink now or any time soon. When I got pregnant and now that I've given birth, my desires have lesser meaning than that of my sons. Sorry but that's my own opinion.

@fallwithautumn, but how are we to know if she wasn't drinking before drinking at my job. She acted a little weird, if you ask me. But that's just my opinion. I know you have to wait one hour per drink. But to me, it's just tacky to be drinking while breast feeding. @daileypartyof4 I'm not saying I don't drink, I mean I've had three beers and one margarita all on different occasions since my sons been born and I waited two hours each after doing so, before breast feeding and I still then felt wrong just for the fact that my son could possibly be exposed and @jaspersmama I am with you 100% I act like I'm still pregnant but what I do while breast feeding because anything can transfer. Regardless if it's over time, or right away. I wouldn't do anything that could possibly spoil my milk. That's just me and my opinion.

I drink occasionally and I still breastfeed. Granted my 1yo doesn't nurse too often, so it's not a huge deal. But really, it's not your baby, not your choice. Women still smoke and drink both pregnant and breastfeeding. Could it effect the baby? Yes. But is it your decision? No. Is it your place to judge? No. Those two drinks may have been her first in months. Maybe it's an occasional thing. Maybe she was celebrating (or mourning) something and needed something to help take the edge off. You never know someone's situation. So instead of judging, put yourself in her shoes.

@daileypartyof4, that's how I feel. Not as an every day thing. But every once in awhile as long as you aren't over doing it, it's going to be okay.

@cookiemonster1216, not saying it wasn't okay, just something I would never do. My biggest thing is the look of it, drinking a mixed drink while a child is attached to your boob, isn't the ideal look. Sorry if that makes me sound ignorant. And I have drank while breast feeding. But waited an exceptional amount of time before nursing, yes maybe she did need something to take the edge off but in my eyes pump a bottle for your child, then have a few drinks. Especially in a public place, it's sad the world is nowadays but people will forever judge. I'm sorry I have become that judge mental one.

And NOT saying it's NOT okay to drink when you breast feed. I jUst find there being a difference frim breast feeding WHILE drinking. Or waiting and breast feeding AFTER.

Maybe she doesn't have a pump. Or doesn't respond well to one. I am in that situation. Even when I had a pump, I could never pump much. Are you bothered by breastfeeding mothers eating junk food and drinking soda while nursing? Because that isn't good for babies or mothers.

@cookiemonster1216, nope not at all, I eat junk food and drink soda I'm not a perfect breast feeding mother. But I wouldn't smoke or drink while breast feeding that's just me. If I didn't own a pump I wouldn't drink. It's not like you cannot live without drinking, unless your an alcoholic but that's a whole other conversation

I don't see an issue only because it takes about an hour to an hour and a half for the alcohol to pass into breast milk. The milk you fed to your baby probably had more alcohol in it 2 hours later than what she was giving to her baby. It takes about 2-3 hours to get rid of the amount of alcohol from one beer, and up to 13 hours to get rid of the alcohol from a high alcohol drink.
