A lot of woman quit cold turkey and there's no effects to there baby if you think you can do it if day go for it

sunflower seeds really helped me, and if you go to your health department they should have this thing where if you quit you get a year free of diapers I'm doing it and the incentive is nice to have lol

Ok, for sure you shouldn't vape then. And, I agree with the unknown effects of that, too. My side effects with cold turkey were Extremely bad headaches/migraines, some jitters & I also had sore gums (which I've read is also a side effect of pregnancy). I think the headaches were the most difficult side effect for me, they literally kept me up at nights. Aside from the physical, of course you have the cravings, too, but you need to just tell yourself No & try to occupy your time with anything you can. Everyone is different though, so your symptoms will be different from mine. Have you talked to your Dr about whether cold turkey might be too stressful for your baby? Also, how much are you smoking now, and how long have you been smoking cigs?

@audreysmama, @varduim my doc said no vape and not knowing the long term effects does really bug me. I love my baby to the moon and back and want to just cold turkey or so you think the shock of it will mess with the baby?

The vape things haven't been tested with pregnancy at all they have chemicals in them to .. I'd ask my dr before doing that cause they haven't really been around long enough for us to know any of the side effects but you will quit when YOUR ready to trust me I went 3 1/2 months with everyone saying how horrible I was and my dr telling me how bad it was and everyone looking at me like a bad mother and crying and not even enjoying my cigarettes cause I felt so bad for smoking then one day I just set my mind to it and did it .. It's all you and your will power you'll do it when your ready to :) just try and cut back till you get the strength to quit all together

Did you say you were switching to vapors? If you honk that will help you, it's a good alternative because you're not getting all the tar & you can drop the nicotine levels gradually.

If cutting back won't work for you, you need to quit cold turkey. You WILL go through withdrawal, but just keep that in mind and recognize the symptoms as such, and remember that it is only temporary. I smoked close to a pack a day for 7 years, and quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. It is easier for me to do 'all or nothing' and I couldn't ease my way to quitting. Although, even though my husband still smokes, I don't plan to go back to it. This was the best motivation for me to quit. I am not judging you, but you really need to summon all your willpower and make this happen. At the very least, until you give birth/finish breastfeeding. Good luck to you, it sure isn't easy, but it's necessary & well worth it.

@gimmiefood, that's odd. I hate how some drs say one thing and another says something different. I feel like it would be safer with the patch this was your not cutting off oxygen. hmmm... what about using the vapes as a way to cut back n stop? they deliver nicotine but the smoke is not the same as the smoke from a cigarette.

@audreysmama, I think about it all the time the baby not an to breath. I just cant yet I wanna switch to zero nicotine cape bit the practitioners said no...

@gimmiefood, ask about the nicotine patch and then you won't have to physically smoke. you'll just cut down the dose of nicotine with the patches. I don't see why they wouldn't be safe, but ask your dr anyway. that will prevent u from buying a pack of cigarettes and have them staring you in the face. I wish you luck.

maybe just try to cut back little by little and then eventually stop or talk to your doctor and see how bad it is to just stop smoking(cold turkey). then if you think you can quit all at once go for momma. but even slowly stoping is ok too.

i was 12 almost 13 weeks when I found out i was pregnant and i quit cold turkey...i didnt smoke another cigarette after i found out i was pregnant. but idk....

And like you said just cause someone quits sooner then someone else doesn't mean they love there baby any more or any less it's a hard habit for some of us to kick .. I do agree that you gotta put your baby before you but it's hard like I know how your feeling I used to be smoking and crying cause I wanted to quit so bad but the addiction was just to much for me

You can do it alone my boyfriend still smokes I just make sure he doesn't smoke around me which he still does sometimes but it's all in the power you have in yourself .. Think of it this way if your baby we're here already you would do anything in your power to keep them safe from any harm right ? Well it's no different with them inside . I'm not judging you at all I smoked till I was 22 weeks cause I just couldn't stop but I had to think of my little baby not getting any air everytime I lit up a cigarette. And all the damage that could happen like there little brains not developing and if I'm the reason she has asthma and can never play sports .. I just had to put her before me . Which as a mother we do anyways as soon as our little ones are here they will always come before us and our needs .. It's not any different with them inside of us they actually rely on us more in the womb cause were there sole providers for food , air, shelter, everything is all in our body's .. Just think of your little one not being able to breathe and the life long health issues they could have if you continue and like I said no judgement coming from me cause it took me forever to quit

I mean when I found out I was pregnant (I know it's not the same) but I quit soda cold turkey. I had headaches for a few days but was fine after that. Give it a try. It can't do anymore harm than the cigs are.

And also my OB said the chances of my baby having sids would be higher if I didn't quit and that scared the craving right out of me I thought to myself how I could live with myself knowing I gave birth and everything and my baby died just cause I wouldn't give up smoking ... That's when I got more serious about quoting

I stopped buying cigarettes and only smoked my boyfriends when he was around it taught me to go a long time without smoking. Then I cut back to only smoking at home (sense I work a lot) and then I cut back how much I smoked at home to one in the morning and one at night and then eventually quit my OB told me I could use nicotine patches (he said DO NOT smoke and wear one though cause it WILL kill your baby) or the nicotine gum

@lovemynugget12, obviously you where not a habitual smoker. just cause you quit dont mean you any better nor love your baby any more.

I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant I had the urges so bad and still do sometimes but I always think about my little baby love and how much I love him and how much I wanna be a good mother . I don't think it's that hard if you truly put baby first .

Damn..well I definitely agree on cutting back, but maybe also try finding something else to satisfy the need to smoke. Some people try chewing on sunflower seeds.

quitting cold turkey isn't recommended. so please don't stress yourself out trying to do that. cut back at your own pace. if you feel the need to smoke, occupy yourself with something else. eat some suckers, chew gum, write, draw.
