Let see, I'm thinking back 4 years here... Contractions started early, but I didn't feel them for a long time. I was admitted in at midnight, by 2am I got the first pill, 6am the second pill, not sure when I started pitocin, I'm sure by 10am I was in active labor, just didn't feel it until closer to 11-12, asked for the pain relief, probably for that around 1230ish or so because by then I was in hell- it's like the worst period cramps you could possibly have, and maybe by 1 I got the epidural. The shot they gave me before helped a bit but the epidural is what did the trick. I was already out of it so the epidural didn't hurt at all. I dialated like 3-4cm within an hour after the epidural, and by almost 4pm I had my son.

You go in, set an IV line put in, they put a 1/4 of a pill in your cervix to start dialating you, if needed they add another 1/4 pill 4 hours after, then they monitor you and eventually start you on pitocin, then eventually active labor starts & bam, there's a baby. I was in labor for 14 hours from start to finish, didn't feel anything until the last 3 or so hours, got some sort of medication for pain until I was able to get the epidural, once I got the epidural done I was able to dialate quicker (which I guess is backwards to what's normal) and then right before the start of the 14th hour I gave birth.
