I just had my doctors appointment today and unfortunately my doctor was unavailable, so I met with another. I wanted her to check me to see how dilated and what my effacement was and she refused to do it!!! Then she went on to tell me that it's useless to know and that she doesn't believe in checking unless I'm in labor! I just wanted to know it's comforting to know what's going on down there!
@mssjudyk, really?? Nice to know thanks! :) @sgtpeppertheory yes that's true and I agree with you @ce5ce I just don't like that she wouldn't do it, she could have someone else do it. @emc229 exactly I was told that I can ask to be checked anytime
well that's different. I've heard of patients refusing to do it but not the doctor😟😟 makes me think she just wanted to be difficult. I would've said send me in a nurse that will then and not leave until I got what i wanted. I understand it's to prevent infection but geesh, there are ways to compromise😒😒
My midwife said they don't check unless I'm having contractions regularly, because some people can be at a certain dilation for weeks, and some dilate all in one day and have their baby that night. Doesn't really tell you much.
she refused ?? wdh. i didn't know they could refuse to do something like that. that's bs. you 37weeks you should be getting checked anyways.
my midwife refused to do it unless I was in labor also. it prevents infection.
Geez I asked my doc and she did it in my last appt. I was just having a ton of contractions so I wanted to make sure I wasn't dilated or anything. Gave me piece of mind. She should serve to your needs!
My doctor refused to check also. "There's really no point. You can be 100% effaced for days, weeks even, and we don't want to cause infection. If you're feeling goods, then I really don't want to give you false hope thinking she may come early.". The thing is, I WANT her to come on her due date - not early. But, I guess I understand where he's coming from.
