Does anyone else have no interest in the antenatal classes? Or is it just me? :/

I never went, I knew they would cause me anxiety after speaking to my friend about the contents of the classes, I justified my research, talked to my midwife and I was fine

I paid & went to NCT I found the course sooooo valuable & was a great way to meet others having babies at the same time... All 7 of us due within 6 weeks of each other... Very helpful for first time mums as I learnt stuff I didn't know, delayed cord clamping, the importance of skin to skin, breastfeeding techniques, colostrum harvesting, not using baby wipes in the first weeks baby arrives, the pros/cons of pain relief that you can have during labour, what happens if you need emergency section... It really was helpful, but then again I just wanted to make sure i gained as much info as poss when it comes to making decisions about birth & babies early days xx

I went along to the classes when pregnant with my first. It was a great way to make local mummy friends and the hospital tour was really useful. I've not been offered any this time round!

@zeld, yeah I guess once you've had one baby you learn from that so I wouldn't feel the need to go again. But this is my first so will probably do what @denisej96 has been doing and watching videos 🙈 xx

This is number 5 for me so I'm not fussed with them but to be fair I didn't get a lot from antenatal classes 18yrs ago with my first...

each to their own though. some people get a great deal out of them.

I went with my first and found it a waste of time, they didn't really tell me anything I didn't know. The ladies who were in the group were all married and in their mid thirtys (and at the time I was a single girl of 23) and found it really intimidating to make bonds or friends. When I met my hubby and we fell with my 2nd I told him I wasn't going to go and he was fine with that. Basically all you need to know about labour and options can be found on NHS website or from people who have had babies already. The only reason I went with my first was to get out of work for a morning or afternoon!!! 😂😂😂 other than that complete waste of time in my opinion xx

the thing I'm worried about is that they going to tell you sooooo much stuff it will just cause anxiety with me, I been reading a information book from my midwife which has helped. just some the stuff should come natural. good thing about it is it be nice to meet other new parents to be. worst thing is is listening to too many stories ( and you'll always hear the worst ones) that's what I think any way @daniellelc91 x

Yes I completely agree, I think everyone's experiences are different and antenatal classes are just based on experience and no one has the same. I also don't like to know what to expect either as will probably scare me more, so would rather just go into labour and deal with it x

@abbywebb22, exactly, that's what I said. You can't learn how to take care of your own child as it may be completely different when they are here. It's best to learn on the job lol. Was worried incase I was the only one not going to any classes

I didn't go to any, this is my first, I haven't been to one, I just feel like you can't really prepare yourself for birth as what happens will happen, I would rather just go in and deal with it there and then. X

@bee1979, @pj don't you have to go to one though? I'm sure that's what my midwife said to me.. If you girls don't mind me asking, what are the reason you don't want to go? I think mines just anxiety and I don't like the thought of being with a load of randomers and having to talk to people haha, I sound ridiculous! Xx
