It terrifies me to think about raising a son in this country and time we live in. Not just a son, an African American son, who is singled out and mistreated on a daily basis. Raising a child in this day and age is terrifying in itself. I just pray the lord has mercy on our country... And continues to cover those who follow him with his grace and mercy.

I am so blessed to work in a school run by a majority of white folks who don't just talk about helping children make a difference in the world, but actually mean it! All students take action by participating in strikes, speeches, and find ways to give back to the community which is mostly Black and Latino! It all starts when children are young to learn to appreciate and embrace the beauty that exists within difference, and to challenge stereotypes when they come up!

@jmhopp, and I feel some things are getting better! It's just the Internet wants to point out the bad! Like color, race, politics, or religion. We are the same just have different thoughts, ideas, language, backgrounds and that's okay! We need to teach our kids that history shows you can change and love everyone even if you don't agree. The Internet is spreading hate, fear, and separation! That is what saddens me the most. People read an article and believe it or that article causes hate. :( sometimes I wish we can take the Internet away.

I agree. I also think media, social networking, and the Internet has made things worse. There have always been bad things it's just now people are exposed to almost ANYTHING which makes things scary. I believe we can change things if we change what we read, look at, and teach our kids. There will always be "bad guys" or people who don't agree with you. Other countries are worse! I pray we can change this world so that we aren't in fear for our kids.

I don't understand how black people get treated cause I'm white but it hurts my heart to know that anyone can be so evil to kill someone. Satan is real and this country is not going to get better because God's own children has allowed satan to enter into our daily lives. All we can do as parents is raise them the Godly way.

I personally don't believe in God or anything, but I've grown up in a safe little town that just had a rape and a cop that shot a 22 year old unarmed guy. I don't know how the world will be when my son's are older (first born is almost 4, second one will by here in December) but that stuff scares me too. The world is definitely different now than it was when we were growing up && it just seems to be getting worse and worse.
