That and all of the muscles are preparing to go through that 12-16 cm stretch for the baby to exit the birth canal so everything is going to feel like it's getting "tighter" as well , best thing to do is walk and prenatal stretches , they also help with the pains of the baby dropping lower and lower into the pelvis . Think of it this way - baby's pushing down. So you have all of that downward pressure making you dilate as is. Now imagine your cervix being compressed from both upwards and downwards at the same time, that's pretty much what happens when they check you, that plus with everything stretching everything is going to become much more sensitive, it's gonna feel raw, like how you were saying you feel like a virgin
